Hunter Bug - Keeps trying to Default to Melee Attacks While Target Swapping

Not sure if anyone else has had this happening, but post patch, if I tab to a new target while ranged auto-attacking, my hunter swaps to his melee weapon and just stands still.

Had a few situations where i even used a shot, then he went back to trying to melee instead of ranged AA.

Having same/similar issue with melee auto attack starting middle of ranged combat. Firing shot that would normally start ranged AA, shot fires but then pulls melee weapon back out.

They added a new checkbox in options for hunters to autoswap weapons. I turned it off and no longer have the issue when switching targets.

So the thing that was supposed to fix the transition actually made it worse. Small indie company

I found another bug for BM - when you summon your hawk, if your pet is on passive, the hawk will fly in and hit the target with an initial attack, and then fly away and back towards you. Even if your hunter pet is still attacking the target you’ve sent the hawk to. But if you’ve got your pet on pet assist, the hawk will stay on the target like it’s supposed to.

Just turn off the new auto-attack setting, and it will go back to the way it was before. Blizzard only knows how to mess stuff up, not get it right.

That works in the short term, but ideally that option should work correctly.

I DO want it to swap to melee when enemies are in melee

Yea I would like it to work also, but blizzard tends to ignore hunter issues. It took them 15 years to make pets jump down with you and they still have not fixed it when pursuing a target. Don’t get your hopes up for any meaningfull fixes.

Yea I noticed that too.. Made a post about it and feedback/bug report in game as well.

Even when set to /Petpassive It should stay on target until target is dead or you have redirected your pets to another target. But it just runs up makes one peck and returns. But it doesnt and having to put it on /Petassist isnt ideal since you may want to switch targets and keep your pets focused on the initial target.

Yeah, I prefer passive because I want to control my pet manually for every situation. I hope they get this one fixed soon. Glad to know you reported it in-game. While I commented here, I’ll also do the same with an in-game report. Thanks

Yea someone told me on my feedback to just use petpassive that “fixed” the problem. I then had to explain to them why that was stupid in a dungeon and that if I needed to switch targets for say a Concussive Shot, I dont want my pets breaking off the main target. I.e. in the BG, want the pets on the healer and CC shot the tank.. But they dont think about stuff like that. Its the difference in being able to master the hunter class or just being a huntard.

I prefer pet passive too, for all those same reasons, and it just makes life easier esp when dealing with multiple enemies.

Since we’re on the topic of pet passive bugs, when you send your pet to the next mob before you kill your first mob, as soon as the first mob dies your pet returns instead of following through on the attack. Super annoying for pet management right now.

I noticed that today and yesterday too.
