Frost Blast: This new spell is learned at level 24. It deals damage and slows the target’s movement by 40%. It has a 1.5 second cast time, and is affected by all talents that affect Frostbolt.
- Developers’ notes: The purpose of this spell is to provide the functionality formerly granted by Rank 1 Frostbolt despite the penalization of “down-ranking”. It does have a higher Mana cost and deals a little more damage as well.
This is literally just mage favoritism. Why do mages get to be the only class that can bypass downranking penalties?

mages got tons of buffs this patch that all seem to come directly from the streamer mages complaining
it seems like blizzard only buffs classes based off streamer feedback
ele shaman recieved alot of changes as well only after esfand made a video explaining there short comings and all the changes nearly match his video
theres been hundreds of posts and threads explaining all the issues with enhance but we dont have a streamer to voice it so were just left ignored and nerfed nearly every patch

for the same reason mages can get blink but even hypothetical monks couldnt get roll; or demon hunters could never have fel rush

The only part of mages thats extinct is their cast bar. Theyre basically a ranged warrior.

This TBH. Frost looks butchered to me. Jury still out on Arcane. Fire’s been a mess but maybe is starting to get somewhere.

Priests are hard to find because blizz keeps nerfing them. Blame them.
Hunters are ubiquitous, I grant you but mages are in a decent number of my grps. I dont see this endangered species that you are seeing. Just my experience though.
Priests needed the nerfs though lol And priest is STILL too strong. Discipline’s shields are out of control even at level 30.
I was being a little hyperbolic, just in reference to mage being the lowest played class in my experience. It’s not as dramatic as I made it sound.
Frost was killed purely from a fun perspective tbh. Nobody wants to play melee on their caster class; it’s poor design.
Arcane looks like it could be fun with having to play around Arcane Blast stacks that are now an upkeep buff, and spamming endless Arcane Missiles. I’m curious how Frostbolt or Fireball get used in the rotation though.
I haven’t seen enough fire to know how these changes will play out though.

That’s really easy. Mage has several high-profile streamers that are currently telling Blizzard just what and how to program the class. If you want your class to also have this privilege, then you should contact your local streamer representative to advocate what changes you and they want to see to your class.
This version of WoW is apparently being developed by streamers and not the Blizzard developers.
