I am a prot warrior and I spec’d into Vanguard at level 25. I noticed that any macro with Charge doesn’t work. Even In Battle Stance it says “Spell Not Learned”. In Defensive Stance it says “Must be in Battle Stance”.
replace it with "Charge(Rank 1) " and it will work
Vanguard is a silly talent, doubly so if you’re putting charge in macro anyway
You’re name is very fitting with this take.
oh that’s brand new, sure haven’t heard that before.
i’m only putting 31 points in to prot i can’t afford to waste them on fluff for people who can’t press their stance buttons.
Glad we have the absolute best warrior in the entire world to show us his unmatched l33t sk1llz because he can… reads notes press 2 buttons?
i mean i’m 100% with you! I would absolutely have thought all warriors would be capable of that, but you’re going to throw away a talent point because you can’t.
even if defense is so abundant on gear that we don’t need to take anticipation to be crit immune i still have better places for talent points than vanguard. As far as i’m concerned vanguard is a dead talent
Obviously the primary benefit is getting to use charge even when you’ve banked rage between pulls, not the time saved creating a stance swap macro. It feels fairly relevant in dungeons and solo play.
if you have banked rage you don’t need to charge. the only reasons to charge are to close a gap, and/or generate rage. And it’s not often that you need to close a gap out of combat in pve.
You still get the rage bonus from charging. So vanguard essentially gives you the 15 rage from the charge (plus the amount that would have diminished) on any pull where you would otherwise have to walk in.
Slowly walking into the pack is also a great way for all these new hunters to get twitchy and multishot early. Theoretically solvable by communication, but sometimes easier said than done, and being able to remove that variable is nice.
You can argue that getting to charge on the other half of your pulls doesn’t justify a talent point, but it’s disingenuous to suggest that it’s purely an idiot tax for people who don’t understand macros.
it’s a strong talent for solo play. Probably not good at all for raids. And marginal but possibly still worth one point in dungeons.
You still have to leave combat to charge whatever would have finished would still diminish.
A difference of at most 15 rage once per fight or more often 5 is not worth a talent point. You can get more rage than that from a lvl 5 rage potion.
I wouldn’t give up any of the talents in my planned build charge in defensive stance if they wanna put that as a dungeon set bonus that might be reasonable, otherwise the opportunity cost is waaaaaay too high.
The crazy thing about this entire thread is you have 5 of the (now) 12 total comments on it, and you have provided absolutely nothing of value and have simply just gooned to the opportunity to try to prove to everyone how “good” you are at the game and how a single talent point (which equates to roughly 1% effectiveness across the board outside of the more keystone-type talents) is so important that it’s always a waste of a talent point to take it.
The OP was bringing up an issue that creating a macro with the Vanguard talent didn’t work the way it should. You came in swinging about how he was a bad player for even daring to take such a talent.
How about instead you go start a youtube channel to make guides so even more people can know how much of a l33t g4m3r you are and you can spread the word since you obviously have a lot to teach everyone. You’ll have to let me know once your channel is up and what the name is so I know what to avoid
I’ve done no such thing, my point though all of this has been that it’s so easy to swap stances that it really doesn’t take skill at all.
100% correct. No notes.
You know what would’ve stopped me from commenting so much ?
Comprehending my point in the first place. You keep responding and I’ll have to keep clarifying. So here we are I’m waiting to see how you require clarification on this one
But this tangent does ?
You’re as much to blame for this as I am

I wasn’t replying to the OP; I’m replying to you. You were replying to the OP.
My “tangent” is not a tangent because I’m replying directly to the stupid crap you said.
A difference of at most 15 rage once per fight or more often 5 is not worth a talent point
What do you mean “more often 5”? How can it ever be less than the 15 that you get from charge directly? Yes, you lose rage out of combat already so the charge doesn’t stop all of that, but it saves you the amount of rage you would have lost in the time it takes to run in, plus the 15.
15 rage is not trivial, it’s literally a bloodrage. You aren’t dropping a point in anticipation or whatever for a second bloodrage usable on the pull? You’re talking about these talents as if they’re all profoundly critical, but there isn’t a pathway to the 5th tier without some kind of filler like improved bloodrage, anticipation, or improved sunder armor.
Where exactly is that critical talent point going for you instead?
because if you DON’T take the talent and you start at zero rage, you charge gaining 15 rage then swap to defensive stance and keep 10 rage, making a difference of 5 rage.
Understood. Yes, when you start with no rage it’s only a benefit of 5 rage. So thats the power floor, with a ceiling around 15-18 plus the mobility value.
5-15 rage on each pull in dungeons and solo isn’t worry dropping 4 defense for?
I completely agree. I love Vanguard, I love it in dungeons. I love it questing.
I do agree that for raids it’s mostly useless but not every talent needs to be useful in all situations.
i don’t see any mobility value it’s not pvp where you need to close a gap it’s just pve pulling a mob that’s standing there waiting to be pulled, and a good chunk of that time you might prefer to be pulling the mobs to you rather than you charging to them anyway.
i’m mostly thinking about raids, but if we imagine i get uncritable through defense on gear thereby freeing up my points from anticipation i would sooner put them into improved sunder and/or improved shield wall. in fact that’s where i’m hoping i can spend them. but we’ll see how gear and raids are tuned when we get there.
