WoW Forever: Enchanting Vellums Are Needed — The Current System Isn’t Working
Blizzard has remained silent on why Enchanting Vellums are not available in WoW Forever. We can only guess at the reasoning. Perhaps the intention is to encourage a social experience by requiring players to track down an enchanter, arrange the enchant, and trade materials or gold.
If that is the intention, I want to explain why the current system fails to accomplish that goal — and why Enchanting Vellums are needed.
1. There Is No Meaningful Social Experience When Addons Do the Work
Let’s be honest: addons that scan chat, automatically invite players, and facilitate enchanting transactions give their users a significant speed advantage.
Players who want to interact with others, negotiate, or simply enjoy the social side of the game cannot compete with automated systems that handle everything almost instantly.
Where is the social experience when an addon does the work for you?
Unless addons that automate advertising, invitations, and enchanting transactions are prohibited, the argument that the current system encourages social interaction doesn’t hold up. The players using these tools will have the advantage, while everyone else is left competing for scraps.
If the goal is genuinely to encourage player interaction, then automation that undermines that interaction needs to be addressed. Otherwise, we should stop pretending the current system creates a meaningful social experience.
2. Enchanting Is the Only Profession That Cannot Sell Its Finished Products on the Auction House
Every other crafting profession can produce items and sell those finished products on the Auction House. Enchanting is the exception.
Blacksmiths can sell weapons. Tailors can sell bags. Alchemists can sell potions. Enchanters, however, cannot simply place their finished enchants on the Auction House.
The result? Many enchanters would rather enchant the same items repeatedly and spend gold leveling their profession than deal with the hassle of finding customers, competing with automated addons, and arranging transactions.
That is a terrible situation for a crafting profession.
Enchanting Vellums would allow enchanters to sell their work just like every other crafting profession. Low-level enchants could find buyers, niche enchants could have a market, and enchanters could earn gold by providing a useful service without having to be online at the exact moment a customer needs them.
Why should enchanting be denied the same basic convenience and economic opportunities available to other professions?
3. Enchanters Cannot Properly Service Their Own Alts
Every other crafting profession can make items for its owner’s alternate characters, subject to the usual item restrictions. Enchanters cannot do the equivalent with their own enchants.
Want to enchant your new weapon on an alt? You may have the materials, the skill, and the recipe, but without a vellum, you still need to find another player or work around the problem.
This is an unnecessary restriction on players who have invested time and effort into leveling enchanting.
Vellums would allow enchanters to prepare enchants for their own characters, just as other professions allow players to craft equipment, consumables, and other useful items for their alts.
Why should enchanting be the exception?
4. The Current System Leaves Players Vulnerable to Scams and Materials Theft
This is another serious problem with the current system: players have to trust strangers with materials, gold, and valuable items to complete enchanting transactions.
That creates opportunities for scams, misunderstandings, and materials theft. Players can lose time and resources simply because the transaction depends on trusting another person to follow through.
Vellums provide a straightforward alternative. An enchanter can place an enchant on a vellum, and the resulting item can be traded or sold through the Auction House using the game’s existing trading systems.
This removes much of the unnecessary risk and friction from the process. It also gives buyers a clearer way to compare available enchants and their prices before committing to a purchase.
Rather than leaving players to navigate avoidable risks, Blizzard should provide a system that makes enchanting transactions safer and more convenient.
So, What Is the Reason for Withholding Vellums?
If Blizzard’s intention is to encourage social interaction, then the current system is not achieving that goal while automation gives certain players a substantial advantage. That problem needs to be addressed directly.
If that is not the reason for withholding Enchanting Vellums, then what is the justification?
The current system:
- Gives enchanters fewer ways to earn gold than other crafting professions.
- Makes selling enchants unnecessarily tedious.
- Prevents enchanters from conveniently preparing enchants for their own alts.
- Leaves players exposed to avoidable scams and transaction risks.
- Rewards automated systems that can outpace players who want to conduct business normally.
None of these problems makes enchanting more enjoyable. They make it more frustrating.
My Request
Please add Enchanting Vellums to WoW Forever.
If the developers want enchanting to remain a social profession, then they need to address the automation that undermines that experience. Without that, withholding vellums simply disadvantages ordinary players.
If a social experience is not the reason, then there is even less reason to maintain these restrictions.
Enchanting deserves the same economic opportunities as other professions. Players deserve a safer and less frustrating way to buy and sell enchants. And enchanters should be able to use their profession to support their own characters without unnecessary workarounds.
Give us Enchanting Vellums and let enchanting function like a proper crafting profession.
