I persist and sign on this, and PvP being now enabled convince me of this even more. Hunter does an ungodly amount of damage in PvP atm because of it on top of all the control it (should) have. People point out “the problem is in combat trap and blablabla”. No. Its Lone Wolf. Master’s Call and Roar of Sacrifice don’t exist, there’s virtually no reason to burden yourself with a pet in PvP in this as MM or Surv.
I really really hope they revisit the talent honestly existing at all in this iteration of the game and class. In Retail where every spec is basically a class on its own with little overlap between specs, fine, i get it. But this is a different class philosophy and i feel every spec should retain the core features that make it unique regardless of the builds. Rogue stealthing, Druid’s shapeshifting, Warlock’s all having various forms of debuffs and Hunters managing a pet.
Make a thread asking for those additions if you so wish (lone wolf does have precident those obtuse examples of yours do not), rather than crying about a decent option hunters have accesss to for their build variation so they’re all not just pathing down BM to summon hawk.
Resto has no form.. Rogues dont have to stealth.. Warriors pull with ranged.. melee mage is a concept through concentrations..
Everything you ahve just listed is literally in the game, but none of it is a talent.. Lone wolf is a choice talent.. you can either take it and do 20% more damage for group content, or not take it and have a pet for non group content. Nothing is forcing you
If you don’t shapeshift you still lose 3/4th of your kit.
And lose part of their kit at no upside.
Obviously mean spamming shot as Warrior is viable.
Dismissing your pet is also a thing without the talent. You’re gimping yourself just like a Rogue who refuses to stealth but its possible.
D3 already proved this is a bad game design philosophy.
Anyway this thread is to hopefully reach someone at Blizz, i know i’m right with this. If it doesn’t happen for launch it probably will whenever they do the first balance pass. Call it a hunch from having 500 days /played on the class.
Yes, but i feel the Forever version is half-baked. Survival being melee is fine, but it’s lacking the pet aspect that should has been tied to it since Rexxar.
Besides i know exactly the conjecture you’re going to pull off and my point isn’t entirely flavor anyway. Lone Wolf, above all else, will be a class balance problem.
I promise you, for anyone remotely serious about raiding, dungeons or PvP using a pet will not be an option as things currently are. Feel free to bookmark this post and laugh if i’m wrong (assuming no changes are made).
Hunters use bows/guns, and have skills like arcane shot, multi shot, serpent sting..
The only reason you are ranged in survival is if you are kiting or reapplying serpent sting.. This is not how classic survival played.
Classic survival while it didnt actually have any abilities outside of Wyvren sting that were ranged, it increased their ranged damage.. Current survival does not..
So with that in mind, you shouldnt enjoy Forever Survival at all, its against the class concept. Just like you think lone wolf is.
Every single version of Hunter i’ve enjoyed Beside’s MoP’s had melee abilities. While it was never the focus melee being part of Hunter’s kit has always been part of its flavor.
Lone Wolf was added in Legion, you know the expansion that completely butchered the class and originally removed traps from MM on top of his pet LOL. The fact concepts from the abomination that was Legion MM still plagues the class is a reason on its own that it seems i’ll never get to enjoy it again.
Devs themselves said Survival will be viable to play from in an Hybrid style, which is extremely on point flavor-wise. Survival isn’t an arms warrior. Its a John Rambo/I am Legend style character.
and guess what encourages you to do so.. Talents..
The final talent of survival requires you to be in melee, mongoose bite now applies a damage over time. But instead you can take those points and shove it into something in the marksman tree to feel better, including lone wolf..
This isnt mop, this isnt retail, its not just a cookie cutter build of 41survival, 10 marksman.
not true.. you can go full survival and put points into heavy pet build, to have more of a ranged aspect since Summon hawk doesnt have a minimum range, summons pets that do immense damage, and persist for 15seconds. Aswell as a beefy main pet, and 2% damage increase for just having a pet + 10% chance at attack speed from aspect of the beast.
Youll find alot of specs are not as cookie cutter as you think they are.
You are 100% correct, and it’s not even practical to engage in PvP with a properly spec’ed MM Hunter.
I do a hilarious amount of damage at level 30 with relevant gear. If I took Lone Wolf and added to it, there would be no reason to fight me besides countering with a similar Hunter build or sapping me with a Rogue.
Not even using Lone Wolf, sitting around 450 ish Ranged AP, my Arcane Shot and Serpent Sting out ranges most other kit and does like 300+ damage. I’m sprinting around with Aspect of the Cheetah on dumping 20% of the player health bar into damage and disappearing at next-to-no personal risk.
This is only made worst if there are people in front of me and I’m not being targeted directly.
Add on Lone Wolf and crits, and it gets stupid. Hunters practically hit as hard as Rogue burst windows and from so far out it’s not viable to fight them unless you sacrifice a player running into them to get CC going.
This will only get worse with the Sniper Shot capstone and extra burst damage on more reliable crits.
People seem really hellbent on shoehorning a Legolas archer style thing into hunters for some reason.
I’m not opposed to such a thing being in the game but to me it would feel better as its own separate class. Pets were a central pillar of hunters for a long time and the game could use more than a single physical ranged class anyway.
