WoW forever is fundementally broken. My guild leader was banned for accepting 20g on the 29th, a full day before the new mail rules took effect. The sender later bragged on Twitch about buying RMT gold specifically to trigger an automated ban trap. You are retroactively banning victims while trolls weaponize your system. I’ve refunded my $59.99 and won’t subscribe to WoW: Forever until this exploit is fixed.
Glad the guy was banned. He was dumb for accepting gold from someone he did not know and was not expecting. Next time be smarter. The mail system has always had a button to reject mail.
Some rando gives you gold for no reason and you accept it, that is on you.
Also he probably bought gold and lied about it.
No, the person was a loyal twitch follower and in game “friend” who lied and said it was legitamate gold that he no longer needed since he was quitting Beta. Also this was before the rule change so the ban was retroactive, how can we predict new rules to “Pre Obey” them?
I mean it’d be super easy to send gold to someone like that and it gets swept up by the “open all” button that’s there for people to use. Maybe they should disable it and/or give warnings on mail with gold, but this is a perfectly believable scenario to me whether it happened or not.
Don’t like someone? Send them RMT gold. Voila, banned.
Just don’t accept things from players for doing nothing.
Easy fix
Stop with that. This is no “new rule”. The rule has always been that RMT gold is bannable, period. And Blizzard has always banned any account that receives RMT gold.
Dear good friend that I have communicated with in real life: I am done with the beta here is a tiny amount of gold I dont need anymore, enjoy!
After ban: Ha! you fool my dastardly plan to ban you worked perfectly! never trust someone in an MMORPG with an in game mail exploit that can lead to a ban!
Well then, thanks for playing, enjoy whatever game you move to. The exit is to the left and do not let the door hit you on the way out.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will enjoy the fact that Blizzard is finally taking a zero tolerance policy to RMT gold and removing anyone associated with it.
The first application of these new restrictive interpretations of the anti RMT policy was AFTER the acceptance of this small amount of gold from a RL aquaintance.
If bliz / microsoft changes another rule and goes back and retro actively bans people who broke the rule / policy enforcement AFTER it changes, how are we to predict and pre obey their draconian measures? This breaks the game and opens everyone to the exploit.
Exactly. OP is either lying or really gullible.
They did not change a rule! The rule has always been this way. What they changed was their enforcement of the rule.
I have proof which I have posted on youtube, x, discord and now I bring it up here in an attempt to get a retro active ban reversed. I think rmt is complicated, I think streamers getting in game slaves is problematic, but certainly we can all agree that we should not be BANNED because we are guilty of a violation that was not against the EULA at the time it occurred.
The forums are not and have never been a place to discuss account actions. And is a violation of the rules.
Discussing Disciplinary Actions
This category includes:
- Creating posts or threads to discuss disciplinary actions taken against a player, including chat logs and email correspondence between a player and a Game Master (GM)
- Creating posts or threads to discuss disciplinary actions taken against a character or account on the forums
If a player is found to have participated in such actions, they will:
- Be given a temporary ban from the forums, depending upon severity
I think of Blizzard can track if it’s bought, they should be able to mark the mail in your mailbox as such.
It’s quite common to hit Open All - if anything, that should be removed. You could have 20 legit sales from the AH, and in the middle something like this.
It’s not a good user experience at all.
I suspect that the occurances of such an event as the OP is describing is so rare as to not even be measurable. Seriously, who is going to risk their account buying gold, just to mail that to someone else so they get that other person banned.
The entire idea of such an event is pretty comical.
I will always click “Open all mail” and not even glance at what is happening.
If I get banned for opening my mail, I will just stop playing the game. I’ve never bought gold in my entire life, and I don’t intend to. Ban swipers perma first offense.
blizzard needs to add a setting to block mail from unknown senders, or at least a junk folder so open all doesn’t pick it up. I sell a lot of low cost items on the auction house even if its close to vendor value so that people can get it easier. I’ll have a few pages of successful auctions. I used to use postal, but there is no good replacement for it that I have found.
Now I know why when I find a green shield in elwynn forest and try to hand it to a level 7 warrior that might benefit from it early, they hesitate to accept it. I was looking forward to this forever launch, now I see them making everyone paranoid to help or be helped.
Are we seriously taking this as something that is so wide spread as to need a rewrite of the mail system?
I am going to bet that this type of event is not even .001% (my personal esitmate) of a probablity of happening. Seriously, who is going to risk getting their account banned buying gold, just so they can mail it to someone else because they want that person banned? Think about that, how often do any of you honestly think that is going to happen?
I could open a new battle.net account and for one 14.99 sub fee get a new full account in WOW FOrever, buy 10$ worth of gold and mail it to someone. total cost 25$, total time 15 minutes maybe. This is an exploitable flaw, this is more that a discussion of a single ban.
search google for “wow forever banned for 20 G” several people know the exploit now and it will we weaponized in the future if they don’t address it. Also the gold was recieved BEFORE the new measures were in effect, the early morning of Sept 29. Banning people for actions before they are bannable is ridiculous
