Warlocks are one of the few mana classes without a talent that allows mana to be regenerate while casting. In dungeons, as a healer, this is putting a big nuisance on me. After talking with some warlocks, only Affliction spec can drain enough health with Drain Life to balance out the cost of Health——->mana conversion. This is also a huge DPS loss when converting Health to mana and it barely covers 1 spell cast even for Affliction and it takes 6.5 seconds (1.5 for conversion + 5 sec drain life). Please do something about this mana problem.
No. The class is fine the way it is.
Completely not needed. There is indeed a talent where if you kill a mob with drain soul, mana continues while casting. Given shadowbolt hits like a wet noodle and my wand hits like a 747, just wand. Mana no longer an issue, dot, then wand, problem solved.
Life Tap is thematically perfect for Warlocks. You are sacrificing your health to use more dark energy. I do not think this is an area that needs to be improved upon.
I’ll just life tap until fizzled.
This is their core mechanic though. Devs may need to tweak numbers, but this is generally how its supposed to work.
It’s why I drop a rejuv on the lock after each pull.
You’re under no obligation to heal Warlocks who lifetap. That’s on them to manage. As a healer, your priority is:
- Keep the tank alive
- Keep yourself alive
- If DPS gets aggro and you have extra mana, keep them alive
If a warlock life taps to an inch of their life, rips aggro and then dies, that is 100% on them. They can eat between pulls if they feel the need to life taps every fight. You should not be converting your mana into their mana by way of healing them, that’s insanely inefficient and also prevents you from doing your #1 priority which is keeping the tank alive.
heal for hellfire pretty please ![]()
Good warlocks will eat, health stone, bandage, or pot to help offset the HP loss. However, as a healer I really don’t mind. Toss a renew and keep it movin.
I can’t tell you the number of times a healer would panic and heal me while I was lifetapping. I got healthstones, I got potions, I got bandages, and if we’ve been killing undead or humanoids (very common in dungeons) then I got snacks.
To warlocks, health is just another resource, so get used to us spending it.
You are a bad healer if you don’t top people off while you have the mana to do so
We’re not talking about topping people off, we’re talking about filling up a warlock’s entire health pool each fight. Dropping a renew if you have the mana to do so is fine. Warlocks can manage their own resource pool just fine though.
theyve already made the solution for the “lock mana bar problem” and its called the Healer’s Mana Bar
preach bro so true
I laugh, but its true. And I’m a healer.
there is absolutely no way a warlock is complaining about mana regen.
every other caster would kill for lifetap
Tossing a heal on a warlock after drinking and before the next pull really isn’t that big of a deal and never has been.
Warlocks are responsible for their own Life Tap. Food, Bandages, Life Steal, etc.
They SHOULD NOT expect a healer to heal it.
That being said. I love healing Warlocks Life Tap with a HoT or quick heal. Lets them keep DPSing.
The ones that sit around and do nothing/whine, I don’t heal. ![]()
As a Paladin healer, if a Warlock uses Life Tap excessively, I will stop healing them at a certain point. Even as Destruction, they still have Drain Life, Healthstones, Healing Potions, and Bandages to recover their own health. Ultimately, your mana as a healer is more important than their DPS. Unless you are playing a Priest or Druid where you can easily throw a HoT on them, you shouldn’t worry about it too much.
There are usually two scenarios where this happens:
-
Between packs: The Warlock doesn’t want to drink after a pack and just Life Taps to get their mana back, putting extra stress on your mana bar. In this case, either the Warlock is being lazy or they came unprepared without water. Either way, this is not your issue.
-
During long fights: The fight has gone on long enough that they run out of mana, which means your own mana is likely already low from healing the pull. This one has more nuance. If you have the mana and time to heal them, go ahead, but it’s completely fine to ask them not to chunk themselves down to 20% HP. They need to understand that your main job isn’t guaranteeing their high DPS at the cost of the party’s survival.
As a healer, just heal their lifetap.
I admit I’m biased towards warlocks as someone who has run one in all of Anni as an alt, but the one heal it will take you to put them at full health will pay the cost to fill their entire mana bar from scratch. You’re trading 1-2k mana for 100-200 mana heal. Unless everyone is stopping to drink between every fight, it’s just ridiculously efficient for clear speed.
And it’s even better if you’re a priest or druid and can just toss a HoT and go about your business.
