I really want to play a Shaman but omg it seems like I die every other pull. I finally (after 100 deaths) made it to level 16 and if I get any extra mobs I may as well just go get some coffee and wait to be killed. My damage totally sucks and I can’t heal myself fast enough.
Please, someone tell me it gets better later. Does it get to be fun at some point? If not I’ll play a hunter or rogue.

Are you leveling enhance or ele?
Sounds like your gear is out dated. Id get a 1-handed weapon and a shield and put on rockbiter weapon then spam earthshock. Heal between pulls as necessary.
I have a 2h. I was doing Enhanced, but now trying resto so I can heal myself.
low level 1-handed + shield until you get a good 2-handed weapon I found made a huge difference. Armour too make sure you have decent armour.
Get your Legacy Perks up and running. You get 5% max HP and Mana every time you kill a mob. By level 30 you have 50% mana regen while casting (100% by lvl 60) and you have your entire Enhancement kit of Improved Windfury, resetting Storm Strikes, and Int->AP/SP conversion running with 25% more attack speed.

I havent played in 12 years and don’t know what a Legacy Perk is.
don’t level as resto, even with the talents it’s just not as good as leveling enhance. you’ll get spell push back and time you spend healing yourself is time the mob isn’t taking damage. get your talents started into thundering strikes, then mental dexterity to start and you should start seeing a difference. use your totems, for example stoneclaw is great if you aggro an extra mob (you might need to run to break combat, but that’s better than dying), earthbinding if you’re running away from mobs or trying to kite. searing totem is extra DPS, and allows you to use fire nova, it’s always worth dropping. try to stick with leather armor. it’s kind of boring until you get stormstrike but it’s a solid and safe leveling spec. you’ll also get a great 2 hander I think from the Ruins of Lordaeron dungeon, that’ll help a ton.

Just remember to swing with your weapons and use Stoneskin totem, or Stoneclaw if you aggro a 2nd mob.
I guess I forget the other totems.

Resto is going to be a bad time. Get a decent 1 hander and use a shield as enhance. I leveled using flame tongue on 1hander. Helps if you have some spell power on your gear. only use rank 1 earth shock to interupt. Never max rank. Use flame shock plus searing totem. Get shamanistic focus talent asap.
Tidal Focus has 5% hit and you can get 50% mana regen while casting pretty quick? it just means that fire Nova is your main DPS ability and you can go Totemic Focus for Magma totem cost reduc?
