Dungeon XP, A Healers Perspective

**Im posting this here because I thought was in the beta forums but because I can’t apparently, I put it in general discussion. My bad. Anyway, please read.

***********************************

First let me preface by saying I am in love with this game again. I think Blizzard knocked it out of the park. I am not here to whine or complain about this issue, I just want give an honest opinion and given what it going on with dungeon XP, what I plan to do when the game launches as a priest healer.

I am lvl 26 now and it has been a long, slow road. Leveling as a priest with SWP and a wand takes a while. Lol.

I started playing the beta to get my wow legs back as it were. Its been so long that i had to ask guildies what the hot key was for Nameplates because I plum forgot. Getting back into the game has been great and that feeling of wanting to play all day is back.

So, im planning my leveling for when the game launches and this is my plan for leveling: i came to this conclusion and plan based on the xp design for dungeons and dungeon quests.

I plan to, when I reach the right level, gather what ever quests there are for a dungeon, let’s use RoL as an example, complete the dungeon, turn in quests and move on.

I will not be doing the dungeon again. Why you might ask? Because to me, thinking about it, there’s no point. I will have gotten the max benefit for doing that dungeon so the optimal XP for doing it, will be complete.

I will then move to the next quest area and continue leveling.

“Well what about gear?" you may ask. Well…what about it? If I dont get drops, so what? I will probably replace them in a couple levels any way or just craft my own. I feel zero incentive or motivation to do the dungeons pre-level 60 for any other reason than the first quest lines.

Now, does this pose an issue for the game? Well if its just me doing this, then no. However, will I be the only healer or tank doing this? That’s the question. Realize that unless you are a friend or guild mate, I will heal your groups or dungeon run, once. You will not see me in that dungeon again. I have no benefit to for doing it again. Zero.

Now, if there are more healers and more tanks that feel this way, that will level this way, then you see the potential for a real problem for this game.

Now is that what’s going to happen? I dont know, but what I do know is that this will be MY game plan. Do a dungeon once, turn in quests, and never do it again. It will not be optimal for leveling as a priest healer in this game for me to do the dungeon again.

Thoughts?

Edit: someone brought up a good point. If i decide to level dps spec, because its just better, then why would I heal dungeons at all? Especially if the respec cost is going to be one gold? Another reason for healer shortages.

Blizzard doesn’t care. In TBC Anniversary there were players that were running 5 mages and aoe dungeon grinding from 60 to 70 so Aggrend has said no one gets to level in dungeons. Want to play a tank a healer? Go solo grind quests or kick rocks because no one at Blizz gives a damn, apparently.

Well I hope thats not the case, the caring part. Like I said, I haven’t a clue what the outcome will be if more healers and tanks feel this way, but to disregard the potential for problems outright, would be a mistake.

I understand wanting to be hopeful, but there has been a lot of feedback on dungeon exp since the beta launch. Want to know the only thing blizzard has done in response to that feedback? Nerf dungeon quest exp, dungeon quest rewards AND dungeon loot.

They are actively making the dungeon experience worse in every regard and have said nothing to the contrary. Next thursday they will release another podcast specifically about dungeons and raids and I’m sure Aggrend will get on his high horse and proclaim that dungeons are not supported leveling methods outside of doing a handful of quests for them.

Play an alliance paladin and want to run SFK? Go kick rocks with literally NO QUESTS for it. Play a feral druid and want to go do WC? Good luck convincing alliance players to spend an hour or two going all the way to WC for 3 quests with trash loot, an entire dungeon that mostly drops leather gear (no mages, locks, priests) and half a level in exp.

Blizzard just does not give a flying duck at all. Notice how these changes impact ally more than horde? Given that UD Paladins got an entire questing area added vs 2 random dwarf shaman npcs its really no guess which faction will be getting all of the love and attention going forward.

I mean ffs alliance guards are level FORTY in ashenvale meanwhile the horde guards in the SAME ZONE? Level 55. A problem that has existed since vanilla and they are not going to fix it.

Yeah and I think thats the heart of the issue. Dps players, which are the majority, will be left out in the rain when they need to do dungeon quests that healers and tanks already did? I hate to put it this way but, who’s gonna do a dungeon run that benefits them nothing? It sounds selfish, but it is what it is. I doubt there will be many “charity runs.”

i think you think too highly of yourself and your healing abilities.

you’re one healer in a sea of folks that can hit the heal button. top that, we all have the ability to make heal potions now via first aid.

doing the dungeon at least once is more than most of us. kudos to you. for many of us, we dont even do the dungeons, as the exp with min maxers is not something folks want to go thru.

if you think your post is some sort of veiled blackmail attempt at holding back the game cause you wont heal us..

sorry, that will never be the case. there will always be a healer, or a hybrid who will respec for 1sp to change if they really think thats what they need to get their dungeon quests done (which isnt the case, but im being generous, as im an enhance who respec’d resto because resto is a working spec, and im still classed as dps when I go to dungeons…so again, you’re not threatening/blackmailing anyone)

Shortly after launch we’ll see advertisements for outdoor boosts at hyperspawn spots.

Then the devs will remove all exp from outdoor mobs to collectively punish everyone else.

i guess you never sat at a campfire with a tent during the beta.

I dont know how you got that from my post.

Once again, I have no idea where this is coming from.

Yeah, brother, your world must be so bad to actually think that was my intentions. Really.

I think Blizzard made a bad call here, compiled on top of another bad call.

It was a bad call to take the XP out of mobs and move it to quests.

It was another bad call to then nerf the quests without restoring it to mobs.

There’s always been a shortage of tanks and healers in WoW. It’s going to be on a whole different level in Forever with these dungeon XP changes.

I mean, let’s be honest, we all know what’s really going to happen here:

Step 1: The Classic Andy’s get their way, and Blizzard makes dungeons not viable for leveling. (Not “not equal” because they never were, but not even viable.)

Step 2: Classic Andy’s go “go play something else if you don’t like it” (we are here)

Step 3: Massive tank and healer shortages. Classic Andy’s complain (because karma bit them where they deserved).

Step 4, option A: They make it so dungeons becomes the only way to level, and it actually becomes the problem they’re pretending it is now.

Step 4, option B: Forever dies.

If Mages can sell portals, then Healers can sell dungeon run heals.

Why it could pay for my mount.

And with all the XP in the quests, it doesn’t matter if you’re higher level. Would be easy for a tank and a healer to sell quest completion, reserve the greens for disenchants, and carry 3 hunters through dungeons to make money.

The whole situation just seems so shortsighted it’s actually unbelievable.

Could go deeper than that. Those blues are all reserved too: they have disenchant value. If you want a run where blues aren’t deserved, that costs more.

Yeah. I just would feel bad doing that. But, maybe…

I raise you one.

Charge them based on time.

30mins up.. another 20g or I’m hearthing out :smiling_face_with_horns:

Dungeon runs are gonna get so toxic with this trash. Zzzz.

too bad. That’s the game the Classic Andy’s wanted by making it so people who aren’t like that would play them.

And another reason the dungeon XP change will be worse for the game. People WILL find a way to make it worth their time if Blizz wont. Just saying.
