Stop trying to control AH prices

Getting internal error when trying to sell an item cheaper than what is currently listed. Yes I understand last in first out. But when there is 1000 of the same item in there and they just keep getting listed, I know mine won’t sell unless they are a good deal. If I want to take lower than market price so I can get a quick sale. I should be able to. This is absolutely stupid. It feels like the AH has training wheels on.

It’s called a free market. If I sell below market value, some sniper will pick them up and relist them. What they currently have is basically communism.

everything is communism

North Korea: A modern example where the state tightly controls nearly all economic activity and distribution.

Historical Soviet Union: A classic model of a centrally planned system where production targets were set by government committees.

I think we deserve better than that. Nothing was wrong with how the AH worked in classic. Retails AH is trash though.

Communists still have free trade and sale and production of markets. See: communist China.

I’m fine with it being a semi-controlled economy if they layout their vision for it all. Personally I think you should be able to sell it for whatever you want as long as the price + listing isn’t less than vendor cost.

They are doing it, if its intentional to begin with and not just a bug, because there is zero reason for you to undercut. You literally get more profit this way.

No reason to have Linen Cloth be worth more vendoring than selling to others.

Do you know why they adopted a free trade market? Because their economy collapsed under Mao Zedong’s traditional communist economy. Like every other communist state.

It’s not, it isn’t a centrally planned economy. There’s some unspoken logic behind the scenes in an attempt to manage the games economic health. Not the same thing.

I have some really bad news for you about playing on a megaserver with millions of people on nov 4th.

There is a reason to undercut, if you’re willing to take less due to wanting a quick sale. The market will correct itself. For example, all the gear I put on the AH for market price (because it wouldnt let me put it for less despite it being far above vendor price) didn’t sell. It got covered by the 100s of others. There’s not enough demand for supply for that item. But the game wont let me sell it for a more reasonable price, despite there being 1000s of the same item listed.

It literally cannot when the next person after you undercuts you, then you take it down and undercut him, and so on and so forth until a Rich person buys the entire stock to reset.

but you… just… described… the market correcting itself…

…If you think a rich buying low and then reselling for high prices, much much higher than normal in an actual true free market…well…it explains a lot, dunnit.

Actually this is very realistic to free market capitalism. “The invisible hand” is just class war and a lot of goofy people fight for the team that’s aligned against them

As long as it’s not automated I don’t see why any player has a right to police how anyone else uses the auction house.

If I need gold fast to train an ability, I’ll undercut everyone and hope moneypockets notices.

If I want to give some lowbie quest objective items for cheap on the AH, I’ll champion the social contract we signed during account creation by doing such.

If I want to chase rivals off a unique farm, I’ll undercut until they’re gone.

It’s really just starting to sound like some players dislike games with auction houses.

It’s not players telling you what you do or don’t have a right to do with the AH. It’s Blizzard having forsight to provide a level of moderations as economic health is a meaningful part of the game too.

I feel you, I much prefer my auctions to sell quickly within the first posting. The less I have to think about the items I’m listing the better, especially when I’m bootstrapping on a new server and just need to not be broke.

I think I’d probably just advertise in trade that I’m selling below AH prices and trade directly. If you can’t undercut on the AH, neither can anybody else, so use that to your advantage.

If you can’t sell the item, stop farming it. Simple as. Go to trade chat if you need to get rid of it, or vendor it all.

Comparing a video game market to real markets is hilarious. There are tools for analyzing WoW’s markets that work, but they are stubbed in a microcosm. In real markets, people go to war, suffer famine, and die when centralized price/production control is implemented. They need to contend with reality. Here, nobody dies and the central authority actually, really, can make things appear out of thin air and delete them to force the markets to be a certain way.
