Yeah last thing I want is more Xaryu/streamers having a say so in the development decisions for Forever.
Actually… this is a very valid point. What are some of the biggest differences you think with guys like xaryu vs normal/people like you? Does anything in particular stand out
Yet no RP-PVP option.
Do you… care that much about the RP- portion? All of those people obviously just play on PvP
If we flipped the scenario around…
Let’s say the 3 choices are (1) Non-RP PvE, (2) RP-PvE, and (3) RP-PvP, meaning no option for (x) Non-RP PvP.
Then telling this “so claimed” popular community that, if you want to PvP, just “toggle” the option when you want to — or, alternatively, you could just go to the RP-PvP.
The confusion and awkwardness from these statements is because it doesn’t make good sense. Hopefully, this adds some extra context of where this RP-PVP feedback is stemming from.
TL;DR; Preference should be equally distributed here.
| | Non-RP | RP |
|-----|--------|--------|
| PvE | ✅ | ✅ |
| PvP | ✅ | 🔥 |
Since we all agree that people have preference along both the x-axis and y-axis, it seems unusual for the preference of RP-PvP to be dismissed.
There’s no RP anything is there? I mean, what exactly is the distinguishing “RP” part of the PvP. If you want to RP, then do so. No? I just don’t think it’s something that needs to be distinguished at all.
PVP and PVE have a big difference, you’re FORCED to be PvP in certain areas, or not. The difference for RP is a personal one.
It’s a shame that this opinion is not shared. I tried to explain it, but apparently I am not able to articulate it well enough.
Ultimately, play styles are just based on preference. If someone enjoys RP + enjoys the uncertainty while adventuring (PvP), that’s where RP-PvP makes sense. I do not think this preference is that niche either — I had suspected it was quite a popular play style.
Admittedly though, having so many options on character creation may indeed just be a luxury and the developers will likely need to find a balance between gameplay options and commercial objectives.
All I can say is that if there is an RP-PvP option on character creation — I’d select that option without hesitation. As it stands now, since this is not an available option — it’s a tough choice.
This discussion with you has already proved to me that I would have a hard time finding a common ground or understanding. I guess I need to change my mindset and accept your view is, maybe, in fact, the more popular view. Still… hoping RP-PVP just might have enough community support to make it happen.
I love role play servers, but wow without the fear of pvp isn’t wow…
I think you’re missing my point or something somehow.
If someone is into RP, then… they can do that. It’s a personal choice. A personal choice that doesn’t really reflect anything onto others unless I’m missing something huge. So, they can do PvP realm and RP on that realm. All RP players that want PvP, are captured under the PvP realm, but not captured under an RP realm. I’d go as far as to say the only real way to RP is PvP. Well… or Hardcore. Hardcore is most definitely a step above though.
I agree. I think we are talking past each other here ![]()
My point is that RP servers already exist separate from the Normal. Which drives the feedback.
With your stance, you’re basically saying (I think) that RP shouldn’t exist at all as a play style option, as anyone can just RP in the PvE, PvP, or the Hardcore setting…
So, to extend your point to it’s extreme, RP should not exist and the game should be split into just these 3: PvE, PvP, and HC. RP players can just RP in one of those that suits them best.
The logic (above), I can follow… The problem gets conflated because the game was announced with the (in my opinion popular) RP option, and putting aside the preferences of the other category play styles, as if it can be grouped together — which flows back into my disagreement with the the concept that “it is all the same”.
On the extreme of where my opinion goes… one could propose that what I am saying, is that there needs to be a RP-PvE, RP-PvP, and RP-HC… Yeah. I hear how it sounds — and I agree it sounds like a lot.
The middle ground we are at is (probably) what is already offered by the game, but it does not represent the community preference, as there is 100% a different vibe of the game between Normal-RP (i.e., PVP) vs Carebear-RP (i.e., PVE).
Bottom line: If they are moving forward with offering an RP-PVE option, they should offer an RP-PVP option too.
Yes! Faction identity is core to the immersion. I think that RP-PVP players view the opposing faction as a legitimate threat rather than just another group of questing players.
Traveling through contested zones carries tension; every encounter with an opposing player is an unscripted fight or standoff. I believe this is how every Warcraft game (including the RTS) was meant to be played with online multiplayer.
I just want to hear from the developers. I have zero interest in what some little weasel streamer has to say. Is there way to get the meat and bones of these podcasts in written form? Without the stream input?
RP-PvP also establishes more community based honor systems and events. I remember the mexican standoff in Hillsbrad. RP naming rules are also cool so I don’t need to see orc hunter named McAimed Shot
