Priests and Warriors are next in our World of Warcraft: Forever class deep dives, with updates that build on the roles, rhythms, and class-defining tools players know. This look covers new and adjusted baseline abilities, refreshed racial Priest spells, Rage and stance updates for Warriors, and talent changes across Discipline, Holy, Shadow, Arms, Fury, and Protection.
you forgot got to say that revenge has had it’s damage buffed in general. How much shield shield slam scale with block value now??
Adding back extra 75% rage on Crit is a big step in the right direction. Anxiously awaiting the bug fixes so we can get better estimates on how we can expect to map out our button presses.
Thanks for the transparency and accountability re: how Warrior launched in the beta. Goes a really long way
Any chance we can get back rage from being hit?
An extra 75% rage generation from crits is a great gameplay change, but the baseline rage generated per swing needs to come up as well, and a few other issues remain besides:
- Frankly, that’s still not enough rage generation. Fury might press three buttons every 10 seconds, which is slow even by Classic standards, and Arms is still going to struggle.
- Recklessness on a 30m cooldown needs to go - you cannot just pretend it doesn’t exist, because we know that players won’t. Nerf the benefit, reduce the cooldown to 3m, and balance Death Wish around always being used in conjunction with it.
- Victory Rush is pathetic. It deals very low damage, even less healing, on a 30s cooldown with conditional activation. Even used on cooldown, it’s half the health per second of Bloodcraze, which can be reliably triggered every 6 seconds. It can either be an impactful button on a long cooldown or a reliable button with a weak effect, but right now it is neither.
- Several talents still need improvement: Booming Voice is an empty talent now, and you still won’t ever get close enough to rage cap for Boundless Rage to matter.
Is there any chance we can get a “damage from holy crits increased” talent for priest? I want smite DPS to be viable but fear it may not be without that. Maybe tack it on to Divine Aegis?
Post the pally deep dive! Give us Two Way SoM / SoC twisting!
RIP priest smite dps spec. Dream is over
use it in concert with blood craze. it’s a free button to press, i’m not gonna complain
I was really hoping for a Disc Support/DPS build also that was on the survey a while ago. Give something a bit different for Disc
actually why does slam reduce gcd?
Why didn’t you just give 100% extra rage on crits like TBC and WOTLK? Why did you change the rage on damage taken to the old formula which benefits higher geared warriors more than less geared warriors. When are you going to buff rage or attack speed on Arms warriors to mitigate this normalization which is not enough for arms to perform a rotation.
“Sunder Armor: Now usable even if the target has a more powerful Expose Armor effect active. Threat generated now scales with Attack Power.”
At that point why not just replace Sunder with Devastate? Much more satisfying button for essentially the same payoff.
Not all builds take Bloodcraze, or take Bloodthirst to work with it. It’s a pathetic button and I’m not going to celebrate scraps.
Every version of Victory Rush added to all the various versions of the game including SoD have started better than this and still been improved over time because they were lacking. Warriors do not need complete self sufficiency, but the button should have value.
- Lemme reiterate that: It doesn’t need to be a 30% heal, but even just reducing it to a 15s cooldown, which would coincidentally put it on the same combat cadence as Charge, would be a major improvement.
Right now it’s both weak and unreliable due to the long cooldown. All I’m looking for is one or the other.
Really want a smite priest build to be a thing, and the talent redesigns are good - but Holy Fire is still a really painful spell to cast flow-wise, specifically in a pvp specific context. We need Divine Fury to reduce the cast time by at least 1 second when fully spec’d (please!)
Thanks for adding crit rage back in!
I think that alone will go a long way.
It’s a good start, but not enough, especially for Arms.
Frankly though, it may be worth just reducing the cost of some of Arms’ abilities, so that it doesn’t need to generate 30+ rage per swing.
Adding 75% extra Rage from a Critical Strike is definitely a step in the right direction. However I do still have one big concern:
How is Rage that mechanically different from Energy now? I know on the surface they have differences (Energy is independent of Weapon speed, refills much faster, Rage starts at 0 ect), but mechanically normalization this hard without any additional abilities to generate Rage the way we got in Cataclysm means our Rage gain is mathematically steady outside of missing an attack and now a Critical Strike. Rage as it was in Vanilla was obviously problematic in some respects, but it was it’s own unique gameplay mechanic. Rage was always a very dynamic resource. Rage is now just a slow, red Energy bar.
Protection specc I think should be the prime example of how to handle this. Block Specialization and Master of Defense is a great way to keep Rage generation dynamic, especially when you add in the new change in Rage generation being pre-Armor reduction. Protection is obviously the big winner for Warriors.
Unbridled Wrath is good on paper, but such a low amount of Rage it doesn’t generate nearly enough to keep that dynamic playstyle intact. I would much rather see a lower % but higher Rage generation from it personally.
Arms is the one really out of luck here. Anger Management generates very little Rage, but more importantly to my point is also a set amount, meaning it’s still not dynamic.
I feel like currently Blizzard has really dropped the ball on Warriors, gutting their actual playstyle to the point of no longer even feeling like we’re playing the same class. Warriors were over tuned in Vanilla, especially with World Buffs (which are gone now), but the tuning levers should have been used on how much Rage they generated through the mechanics they had, instead of changing their entire playstyle.
Any shot at lowering Mortal Strike to 20 rage?
