Can't turn off Volumetric Fog?

/console VolumeFog 0

does nothing. The volumetric fog is permanently enabled. Which I really don’t like because it just makes everything look super foggy all the time and it’s jarring as hell. Especially bad in zones like Teldrassil where it puts a thick purple fog EVERYWHERE and looks awful.

It just looks terrible. Why are we not allowed to disable this anymore?

I’ve been posting about it a lot because it severely limits my ability to play. It hurts my eyes we seriously need a way to adjust some of these new effects down!

I regret to inform you, that you are stuck with the fog. world of warcraft: the foggening has arrived.

For some reason the developers want to force this effect on everyone. take a look for yourself, patch notes under bug fixes.

Removed a setting that could disable fog in an unintended manner.

well, it is apart of the intended experience of the game. the fog is a part of the visual effects overhaul.

why are some graphical effects “intended” and unable to be disabled, while other graphical settings can be toggled?
why not give us a choice?

I don’t think Blizzard “intends” to hurt mine or anyone’s eyes though.

They’ve always been good about allowing for people to tone down visual effects because they don’t want someone to not be able to play.

Yea, it doesnt bother me at all. But players should have the choice. No idea why Blizz would outright take players ability to customize the game to their own taste.

Hello,

Currently the only workaround is to set your shadow quality to “high” in options.

Doesn’t work. I tried every single Shadow Quality setting and none of them removed the fog.

You are not the only one for sure. There are a lot of posts about it but 0 response from blizzard so far.

Disable your Compute setting, and keep Shadows at Good or better. Disabling Compute really did help me, and I can’t stand the fog (and the driving rain too).

Oh yeah, and /console Volumefog 0 does not shut off fog anymore, but it does lessen it. It must have been reprogrammed so the 0 is a 1 after the “bug fix.”

Yeah I’ll agree here. I really don’t like the way it makes some zones look. The fog is just much too much.

It looks soooo much better without fog, it just makes things look so much worse and it turns your draw distance into basically 0.

It’s absurd how much fog there is, especially now that we can’t disable it.

Like seriously. Who thinks having every zone be covered in a thick layer of smog, looks good??

Just pure accessibility, you need an option turn off the fog. It doesn’t bother me, but it bothers me that other people are getting eye strain and the blizzard team doesn’t seem to care.

Like… Your game HURTS THE PLAYERS EYES. And you turn OFF the option that was helping them?

Stop hurting people’s eyes with your game. Have some empathy for your players.

Doesn’t seem to do anything for me either.

As someone with advanced cataracts, I literally can’t see to play when its overly dark and really foggy. Finding a solution to this problem is as much an accessibility issue as it is an artistic one.

Bump. Still want to get rid of all the smog in every single zone.

i can very confidently say that the fog is the biggest issue for me personally at this moment. Like if they had to launch tomorrow with only ONE change, i personally would want it to be the addition of a setting to get rid of or reduce the fog.

yeah they removed that – but it’s still a bit bugged (I think it’s a bug NOT TOTALLY SURE) –

anyways it’s part of the main visual look of forever – it’s like Cel-shaded graphics in Wind Waker Zelda – it’s part of it’s identity as the fog/colors are in Forever

-- anyways the bug I mentioned – it seems you get more of the overall forever-fog/color/new look with shadow quality set to LOW or FAIR – for many many GPUs – or maybe all – I’m not sure..

seems weird to me but honestly lots of areas (check out teldrassil) look more amazing as far as the lighting goes on LOW shadows (or FAIR shadows) for me/to me.

I lose out on the cool shadows from the trees/etc but I gain a more in your face fog/lighting that to me is worth losing the shadows.
