There’s already a perfectly good group finder interface in retail. The one in forever is a weird blend of trade chat and group finder, and it’s just worse in every way.
List a group and get 25 whispers from random people. What class are they? What role are they? Have to /who their name to find out. Most of the whispers have scrolled through the chat window before you even see them.
Retail group finder displays this information in the interface, and it’s not scrolled off by 1000 people arguing about politics in general.
List yourself in an unfiltered list for every group. Nobody is scrolling past the first 5 names in the list.
Just get rid of this atrocity. The amount of concessions made to classic andys is enough already. The retail group finder interface is far superior.
Random dungeon finder introduced in wrath is literally peak for doing dungeons. Its gatekept by vanilla obsessed geezers because they have no critical thinking skills and think vanilla is perfect in every way.
Ah RDF when through some changes over the years then. Originall it was used only for regular and heroic dungeons. Raid finder was added in cataclysm and that went terribly.
No, it’s still basically the same. But there is a separate interface for forming manual groups for dungeons and raids. It’s called LFG. It’s much better than the atrocity they have put into forever.
RDF is the antithesis of this game. A good group listing tool like LFG is a good QoL to have, especially with a mega server to be able to sort for people doing the content you are.
It’s not even that. I’m listing my dungeon group. We have 4 people already. We only need a healer to finish our group.
I list the group and get 50 whispers. 48 of them are not healers. 2 of them are. In the retail LFG, I can see immediately the 2 healers, and I can invite or whisper them only. In Forever, I have to /who 50 people to see which of them are even healing classes. Then I have to whisper each one to ask if they can heal or not. It’s incredibly dumb.
Names are colour-coded in chat by default just like they are in retail.
What role are they
.. ask? It’s meant to be a social game, where you talk to people. And for people who are whispering to join groups, it can help to share what role you are looking to fill if your class has multiple roles available to it.
I dont want to whisper 50 people to ask if they can heal or not. I want to talk only to healers. The people who applied as dps to a group that already has a tank and 3 dps are people I don’t want to talk to already because they are time wasters.
Then the people who whisper, if their names are pink, dark blue, orange, or white are ones you respond to. And if you want to be extra picky, only whisper to the ones that say “I can heal”.
Kinda conflicted on this one. On one hand a better listing interface would be a nice addition, but on the other I’m afraid it’ll help enable group leaders who want to verify that you’ve got a PHD from MIT or Harvard before they’ll invite you.
I’m not much in favor of adding random dungeon finder though, simply because in my observation, it encourages players to treat each other as faceless, interchangeable AI dungeon completion bots which doesn’t feel like the vibe they’re going for with Forever.
All those whispers have scrolled through the chat window before I even got done responding to the first guy. It’s a bad interface. Retail LFG lets you nominate your role and its permanent, I can look at the interface at any time to see who is willing to heal my dungeon.
I’ll admit, the more I play the beta the more upset I get. Its insane that Blizzard had a unique opportunity to take vanilla and actually make it good, but instead just beef up some classes with new specs and talents, and call it classic+. Such a waste.
TBH i’m pretty close to just constantly asking for WOTLK Era.
There’s nothing about the retail LFG interface that says this has to happen. The main point is that you see what role the person is willing to play without having to whisper them and ask. And you dont need to filter through 50 whispers every time you list a group.
