Just sort of a PSA to everyone and also a question for Blizzard. I was falsely banned for RMT in the BETA. I appealed, they upheld. I appealed again, they upheld again. I don’t buy gold or items in video games and I most certainly wouldn’t do that in a BETA.
I created a level 1 character to hold a name that I wanted while I went and played on a different class to test and try out. I started receiving mail on that character from people I had no idea who they were. Bags, Gold, Food, Elixirs, Patterns, you name it, they were sending it. Obviously, as any WoW player would do I took everything. Nobody sent a whisper or mail saying oh hey sorry sent that to the wrong person can you send it back? Some of the messages had Big Taunka in it or some thing of that nature so I assumed my name was close to a streamers character name and I was just reaping the benefits. What I believe may have actually happened is some idiot was RMTing in a BETA, blizzards mailing system being borked with the whole 2 names and I ended up with the items and the penalty.
So what am I supposed to do in the future? Just say no to anyone sending me anything? If it gets sent to me am I already screwed even if I don’t open the mail? Is this just a case of extremely bad luck and blizzard not really caring?

I just want to reiterate that I don’t care if you believe me or not. My BETA access is finished so it doesn’t matter at the moment. What I’m trying to avoid, is this happening to me on launch and also to others. Take it as a what if scenario if you want to believe I participated in RMT. I don’t care lol The fact is, simply saying “well you shouldn’t have taken it” isn’t an actual safe guard to protect the players. If I’m collecting my 40+ auctions and there happens to be gold in there falsely sent to me that I don’t notice, then what? I’m still screwed right? Whether I purposely collect the gold or not doesn’t matter in this case. Blizzard has tools for players to recover accidental mail sends as well as an additional prompt for sending mail to people not in your guild or on your friends list. But if I’m accidentally or maliciously sent gold from RMT I have no protection. I have no way of proving I didn’t purchase it outside of providing my bank records to blizzard.
I understand the skepticism and I am not saying that you aren’t 100% correct but I could absolutely see a gold selling organization doing this to random strangers testing the boundaries that Blizzard has put in place to directly thwart them.
It is just as much a beta from them as it is for Blizzard.
Id agree but the RMT sites are selling gold for a pretty penny lol, especially 10gold. Thats why at most maybe this is an accident but the fact this person didnt send it back/decline it nor make a ticket has me doubtful
Blizz made a few statements iirc about taking forever RMT very seriously
My friend, saying that is an excuse for what in retrospect was viewed as shady behavior by the authorities.
Listen close, because you’ll need this advice is real life:
There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
Authorities NEVER accept “I thought it was free” as an excuse.
People who act before thinking are prime targets for scams.
If something seems to good to be true IT LIKELY IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.
Prisons and courts are full of people with excuses and explanations. Better just not to accept something that seems odd than to explain yourself later.
This also happened to me, but I did not get banned because I sent it all back with a note saying I wasn’t sure how I got this but cool stuff, cheers.
This is the beta, there’s not reason to keep stuff accidentally mailed to you or hoard gold. It’s all wiped in a few weeks. Even if it was live, that’s a really crappy thing to do.
Karma went easy on you this time. Just a ban from the beta, next time it could be your whole account.
