In World of Warcraft: Forever, every character name is an opportunity to express yourself and establish your identity in Azeroth. With the addition of two names, players have more room to create something personal while keeping each full name unique within a region. That means you may still be able to use the same first name as another character, but your complete two-name combination is unique to you.
It will be fun exploring the world as Golgoroth Ironmaw come November.
I look forward to playing with people like Hugh Jass, Justin Case, and The Jailer.
It angers me immensely that this is not coming to Retail, I’ve wanted last names since I first started all the way back in Vanilla

My dark iron dwarf is named Axred, but his name SHOULD be Axred Redaxe.
Early Name Reservation will be available from October 27 through November 3, 2026, for eligible upgrade purchases. During that window, names will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis

That would be nice, but if the options are copy/paste Forever naming vs no change at all, Imma choose Forever naming.
I strongly disagree with you on that, IMO separate first and last names are INFINITELY better than the cheap workaround you described, as it allows things like NPCs addressing us by one or the other depending on how familiar our character is with them. I do wish that hyphens and apostrophes were usable within both the First and Last name fields, though.

I would say pay to Beta Test, but we all know that’s not why players pay for Beta Access. When the game launches with bugs, only the players that paid to play will be to blame.
They can’t. Forever’s naming system is entirely different, because the realm system doesn’t exist.
It’s not “cheap.” It makes sense with how the Retail system works. It allows for last names and other cultural naming conventions without forcing people to create a name they have to hide.
Forever’s system is not the same as Retail’s, due to the realmless system.
Beta server is entirely different.
The creativity on the beta is absolutely hilarious. I foresee many forced name changes so blizz had better staff up

How do you know it isnt?
Assuming they can figure it out without needing to send out a bajillion free name changes I have no doubt this will eventually come to retail.
The unique realm system is why they’re finally adding the option as names would be much harder to create with so many more people competing for them, but I see no reason why simply enabling the last name field would not work on a normal realm.
Because the Forever system utilizes the Realm name spot that doesn’t exist in Forever.

Absolutely agree. I know my first post was a little tongue in cheek with the joke names, but I love the extra freedom and creativity it allows for that we currently don’t have. I hope you can enjoy playing as Axred Redaxe eventually.
You are right. I looked it up online. You have to pay for a Forever Upgrade package.
Because they said so in the Q&A they did. Well, more specifically they say “Not during the Worldsoul Saga”, but 14.0 (the first expansion after the WSS) is around 3 years away which is a long time to wait to MAYBE get a highly requested feature that Classic fanboys are getting now.
