Ban Leveling Addons

In the spirit of keeping the game similar to Classic and with the addon bans that have already taken place, I believe the game would benefit from also banning leveling addons like Zygor and RestedXP from WoW Forever. I have used them in the past and believe that they stream line the game too much where they funnel players down a linear optimized path. This leads to less community spur of the moment activities and events in game and less communication overall. Often times instead of asking for help with a quest, the guides have you go to other zones where you out level the quest and come back later when you can solo it. This is not how it was during Classic in 2004. It also gets rid of in game communication where people would normally ask questions to other players, they no longer have to. Everything is optimized and done for you.

The game is supposed to be about adventure and community correct? Taking your time and enjoying the world. These addons are in direct opposition to that. I know that people will just look up online answers to their questions and optimal guides but at least there is that little bit extra friction in having to do that. There are no good reasons to have these addons in the game, none. With the server being a massive mega servers people will always be on to help each other. For these reasons I believe they should be removed from the game. Let’s keep the adventure high, the fantasy high and the exploration great!

You are chasing an impossible dream.

The Internet was a very different place in 2004. We didn’t have decades of knowledge about the game, and a lot of people still had no home Internet access or limited access. Now, it’s in our pocket all the time.

Blizzard can ban the add-ons and it will make no difference. Anyone who wants to power level will just find a 1% less convenient tool and use that instead. They can follow a video online or keep a walkthrough on the side. Blizzard isn’t going to ban players for opening a browser tab or looking at their phone while playing.

There’s nothing more Classic (era) than your whole group simultaneously chiming off “Acquire Bear Asses: 10/10” and then dissolving without a word.

No you’re right I had Joannas guide up as a PDF. Add-ons are way more convenient and I’m looking forward to zooming through leveling (it’s boring anyway).

This is going to be 80% of the player base at least. Theres almost 0 exp in dungeons so questing is the only route. We used a PDF in 2005 so good luck stopping it now.

How on earth does someone leveling faster than you (with or without an addon) impact YOUR enjoyment of the game? Sounds to me like a bad case of dog in the manger attitude

We used Thottbot in 2005. People that love slow leveling are the minority.

“Ban addon”

That is a hard no from me. No matter what, addons are part and parcel of WoW.

Back in Vanilla we had leveling guides, and fully fleshed out website databases that were developed since beta. You could download leveling guides, look up item drops, lookup quest info, etc… Sure addons make it more accessible in game, but I had dual monitors even then, and anything I wanted to know was at my fingertips. Zooming through games has existed since the First Mario bros game.

I was there back in 2005 with you guys. I had a printed version of Joana’s guide in a binder back then. I was on all the websites looking for the best stuff all the time. That is completely different than an arrow telling you exactly where to go, how to glitch loot items through walls and stuff. In my honest opinion, it ruins the leveling experience and make new players feel as though they have to buy the addons. Why? Because nobody likes wasting time and anything other than an optimized route, feels like wasting time. I just really believe the game would be better without them. I know what I’m saying make sense and I understand the resistance to it but isn’t the friction and RPG experience the very thing we’ve been craving? I rest my case.

Then you should know better.

It’s not different. An arrow told you where to go you went there. A Printed Guide told you where to go, you went there.

Those with the most Opinions tend to have the fewest Facts.

Thankfully you speak for…YOU.

What kind of Mirror are you giving this speech to?

/facepalm

Agreed. I was disappointed to see they were allowed.

People absolutely 100% followed speed leveling guides in classic. This revisionist history of classic as some addon free utopia of pure casuals is nonsense.

I mean.. just stop caring about what other people are doing. If they want to use a leveling addon, that’s on them. Just play the game you want to play and have fun and let other people have their fun.

We had a levelling addon in vanilla, it was called thottbot.

why do zoomers want to ban everything, its always ban gdkp ban addons ban x or y political name, ban ban ban

Yep.

Also with us 2019 and anniv vets…we’d not need the addons anyway. we are going off of lots of leveling alt experiences.

while the new quests are cool, the old ones are there. The legacy quests are the breadcrumbs to the story to 60.

I already know where my level 25 race/class will be. and where they are at at level 45 and 55 too. My optimal routes based on familiarity. Been here. Many times.
