Pretty simple thread. There shouldn’t be a Portal in Stormwind that takes you directly to Dalaran. You’ve gone through all this trouble to add new, interesting routes to the world that incorporate organic travel and it’s all immediately ruined by instant access to the Northern Eastern Kingdoms.
Didn’t they put a boat in Southshore?
They did, it’s pretty slick.
seems silly to have a southshore boat AND a portal to Dal. Giving Mages Dalaran portals sure but portal and boat is excessive.
Did they actually do that? That completely contradicts what they were saying about physical travel.
Yes, there’s an actual portal in Stormwind to Dalaran. It’s very silly, needs to be axed. Flight path should be enough, as well as the boats!
I’m already hearing so many things like this that are just making me not want to play Forever anymore. If I hear another change like this, I’m not sure they should even continue this project because what’s the point? It’s just going to become like Retail, only with a level cap of 60.
But like, its the mage capital/x capital, and the mages are specifically asking you to go there, seems like it makes way to much sense they would just port you
Why wouldn’t the Mages just open up portals to other cities then, if we’re using lore justification…?
They’re also the ones writing the lore and they can just change it.
Let mages teleport to dalaran at level 20. Everyone else can catch the boat. If they really want to provide transport for a quest then at least make it a 1-time deal and not a permanent portal.
Shouldn’t the Kirin Tor be a little exclusive anyway? They did hide themselves in a magic bubble for years. Why would they want any old vagrant granted instant access to their sanctum?
Just asking a question here: If the portal is removed, how exactly are players supposed to get to and from Zephras Isle?
Someone mentioned Southshore. Sure, Southshore connects to Stormwind, but getting from Dalaran to Southshore is extremely dangerous, if not outright impossible, for lower-level characters.
For example, let’s say I create a Human character and, for whatever reason, decide that I want to begin my leveling experience on Zephras Isle. If the portal is removed, what is the intended way for a level 1 character to get there?
And to be fair, I’ve played Skyborne on both Horde and Alliance, and I’ve noticed that the two factions don’t have an equivalent experience when it comes to traveling between Zephras Isle and the Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor.
The Alliance route is considerably easier. A level 1 Human/Dwarf/etc. can reach the Isle without much difficulty.
The Horde route, however, is a very different story. The ship drops you off on a mountainside rather than directly in Thunder Bluff, and you then have to navigate around mobs just to reach the city. For a level 1 Tauren/Orc/etc., getting to the ship in the first place can be extremely difficult because you’re forced to navigate around level 10 mobs just to reach it.
So if the portal is being removed, I’d really like to understand what the intended travel route is for lower-level characters.
The portal should be removed. It does more harm than good.
If they really want to quest there as a different race, they can always corpse run or find somebody else to help. Although it may be inconvenient, it’s far worse for there to be a permanent portal set up between the locations.
Why bother even using the new boat to Southshore when you can just click a button and instantly be there? It’s bad design and it doesn’t match the world of classic.
Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Zephras Isle and Skyborne entirely removed. Aesthetically they do not fit in the classic world and the zone and abilities are too much like retail.
Nonsense! You lore fundamentalists so easily lose track of the simple expedients of real game design. And as with all types of fundamentalists, it’s time you WOKE up! [The true meaning of being awake, not the twisted, small-minded meme.]
This is indeed highly contradictory to their stated goals and doesn’t make a lot of sense. I agree that the portal should be removed.
Something that could use some clarification, is the portal intended to be beta only, or permanent?
If it’s permanent, it negates the need for the boat and feels like a terrible choice. The vanilla experience of Wetlands running a lvl 1 to get to a preferred zone comes to mind and it’s a shared memory many of us have. A pain, yes, but also it brought a lot of fun with it. It made the destination feel EARNED.
I could approve of it existing for players that have unlocked it via some means though (since Dalaran will be a whole Situation later anyway.)
Agreed that the portal needs to go; completely against the spirit of Classic and moving around in the world. I’m hoping that it’s just there for the ease of beta testing the dungeon.
I think this is valid, however so long as it’s only for the purpose of Skyborn being able to travel back to Zephyr isle up until they are high enough level to be able to go to Dalaran legitimately, then I’m ok with it.
That being said… on horde I can go to zephyr isle at any level with any race. Kinda lame alliance can’t do that.
Can’t yet decide if it’s that egregious, being the only example of that break in travel time consistency, or a fine exception, considering that Dalaran probably would have a convenient portal connection to Stormwind if they are both Alliance settlements. It kind of both makes sense and goes against the world travel philosophy.
They could just change it? This is a problem entirely created by blizzard, they can just change how low levels leave that starter zone.
I can’t find a portal to Dalaran anywhere in the mage tower in Stormwind.
