Something about the lighting settings is really messing with my eyes. Tried turning the settings all the way up and all the way down, but I’m still getting a lot of eye strain in both versions. This is the same problem I have with a lot of current survival games… something about the lighting just doesn’t agree with me. Anyone else having this issue and found a solution?
Yes, but only in Forever. I think in my case its the fog that is to close to the character and makes the screen blurry and washed up.
I think you might be right. I didn’t really start having any problems with my vision until I went into Stormwind, and just sitting in the main square was giving me a headache, but I hadn’t seen the fog like that before anywhere else up until that point.
I hope Blizzard will give us an option to make the fog less dense. It would help a lot I think.
I also find eye strain with how intense the fog can be, even in sunny/clear weather where it really shouldnt be.
Fog in the distance to hide things is fine, but when its in close it feels like I need to clean my screen.
I think either lighten up on it a bit or let the player control it like we do with ground clutter.
try typing in-game into the chat line: /console volumefog 0 and that will cut down on the fog. It doesn’t do enough, though.
And boy is Stormwind dark! Yesterday SW and Goldshire were drowning in an overly foggy, blurry, bright orange light, then it went to a dark smokey grey, foggy haze.
Now today it’s been so dark and overly-gloomy and hard to see in SW and Goldshire.
None of this is pleasant to look at or easy to travel and quest through, and spending hours screwing with my video settings (turning shadows down then up, turning Compute off, etc) and getting nowhere is very aggravating. You can’t see mobs until they’re right on top of you.
Changing the title since we’re more or less figured out what the issue is. Unfortunate that turning the fog to 0 doesn’t really help. I wasn’t able to turn it down to a reasonable level in settings, either. Even with all my settings on the lowest, it was still very present- in fact, MORE present than it was with all the settings turned to max.
I also have very sensitive eyes and when I’m having a migraine I have to completely disable Compute Effects. You can also completely disable Secondary Lighting (new in Forever) and see if that helps.
I do not have this problem, and I quite like the lighting and volumetric fog the way it is, BUT, there is certainly room for them to introduce a setting that player can control, to reduce or turn it off completely. That’s a very fair request.
EDIT - in the meantime, try changing “Bloom” from High to Low. (If it’s on High.) That will help resolve the subsurface scattering from light sources which may make the “fog” less apparent to your eyes.
Unfortunately this did nothing for me. I wish I had a screenshot to show it, but I’ve refunded my pre-order for now, as I don’t want to spend 60 bucks on a game that’s potentially going to be unplayable for me.
I am having this same issue and it is specific to the lighting or something in this game. It sucks bc I was really looking forward to playing a lot. Have messed with all kinds of settings and nothing seems to help.
a lot of people have been complaining of eye strain and migraines related to the new lighting system. i know personally the game looks blurry with the new lighting and its hard to see sometimes
Seconding this. Fog is too overpowering and is too close to your character and direct field of vision. A slider would be optimal as I’m aware the new lighting system relies on the fog, and a binary on/off hinders their artistic intent.
I really just thought the eye strain was from long hours on beta lol.
My low end GPU seems to really struggle to make fog look good, although I think changes are still coming with the release. Near textures are often fuzzy, which is not the case on era at same settings.
Its probably the fog not your PC^^ even on absolute min. settings it is blurry and foggy and causes eye strain.
I have a fairly high end PC and it looks strange and makes things hard to see. Def not anyone’s PC.
Glad to see its not just me with this issue. I cant even play for more than 10min without really bad eye strain. I tried messing with some settings but not much luck personally. Never had any issues in retail. Hope they find a solution to the problem before launch, was really looking forward to playing.
It’s not just the fog, The lighting makes me feel like I’m diving into a setting sun without sunglasses. You know when you have to hide behind the visor and peek just enought to get home without killing youself or anyone else.
I can barely 30 minutes before I need to rest my eyes.
I’m having issues also. I’m sure that the underlying cause is my cataracts, but I’m definitely having more visual problems with Forever than I have with other games. I’ll take a look at settings, but there is certainly for improved accessibility.
