Build 69913: Repeated ERROR #132/#135 crashes on RTX 5070 Ti — D3D11 and D3D12

Summary

Since playing WoW Forever Beta build 69913, I am experiencing repeated client crashes shortly after entering the world.

I have reproduced the problem using both D3D12 and D3D11, with no addons loaded.

The crashes are not all identical. So far I have captured:

  • ERROR #132 ACCESS_VIOLATION in WowB.exe under D3D12
  • ERROR #135 ASSERTSAFE in GxuFontMain.cpp(434) under D3D12
  • ERROR #132 ACCESS_VIOLATION inside NVIDIA’s nvgpucomp64.dll under D3D11

The D3D11 crash occurred only ~45 seconds after entering the world.

Environment

Client: WoW Classic / Forever Beta 1.60.1, build 69913
Realm: Classic Beta PvE
OS: Windows 11 Pro x64
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, 16 GB
RAM: 32 GB
NVIDIA Driver: 32.0.16.1692
Driver Date: 2026-09-04
Graphics APIs tested: D3D12 and D3D11

No addons were loaded during these crashes and the crash reports show 0 Lua errors.

Reproduction

  1. Launch WoW Forever Beta build 69913.
  2. Log into a character.
  3. Enter the world.
  4. Play normally.
  5. Client crashes shortly afterward.

The crashes have occurred within approximately 1–8 minutes of launching/entering the world.

Changing from D3D12 to D3D11 did not resolve the issue.

Crash #1 — D3D12 / ERROR #132

The first crash was:

ERROR #132
ACCESS_VIOLATION

The exception occurred inside WowB.exe.

The client had only been running for approximately 5 minutes.

No addons were loaded and there were no Lua errors.

Graphics API was D3D12.

Crash #2 — D3D12 / ERROR #135

The second crash was different and appears potentially more useful:

ERROR #135

ASSERTSAFE(depthMode == 0 && depthTestMode == GxuDepthTestMode::Disabled && !multisample, ...)

Source:

Engine\Source\Gxu\GxuFontMain.cpp(434)

All addresses in the assertion stack shown in the crash report were inside WowB.exe.

This crash occurred after approximately 8 minutes in the client.

The graphics diagnostics also recorded:

GxApi: D3D12
GxDeviceLostCount: 1

Again, no addons were loaded and there were 0 Lua errors.

Crash #3 — D3D11 / NVIDIA GPU compiler

After the D3D12 crashes, I changed the Graphics API to D3D11 as a troubleshooting step.

The crash report confirms:

GxApi: D3D11
ShaderModel: dx_5_0

The game then crashed approximately 45 seconds after entering the world.

This was another:

ERROR #132
ACCESS_VIOLATION

However, unlike the first crash, the exception occurred inside NVIDIA’s GPU compiler:

nvgpucomp64.dll

The top of the stack is entirely nvgpucomp64.dll, followed by multiple calls through:

nvwgf2umx.dll

The exception was:

ACCESS_VIOLATION - The instruction at "0x00007ffb028c6916" referenced memory at "0x0000000000000048". The memory could not be "read".

This occurred using the RTX 5070 Ti with NVIDIA driver 32.0.16.1692.

Troubleshooting performed

  • Removed/renamed the WoW beta Cache folder.
  • Tested with no addons loaded.
  • Confirmed 0 Lua errors.
  • Tested D3D12.
  • Tested D3D11.
  • Verified adequate free disk/system memory.
  • Streaming diagnostics show 0 streaming errors.
  • D3D11 still crashes.
  • D3D12 still crashes.

Changing graphics APIs therefore does not appear to avoid the problem.

Additional observations

The crashes are occurring on the same beta client:

1.60.1.69913

WowProject: Camelot

Config: Beta

The executable reports that it was built:

Sep 17 2026 17:42:13

The failures are not completely identical, but all three occur very shortly after launching/entering the world.

Of particular interest is that one D3D12 crash triggers an internal Gxu assertion in GxuFontMain.cpp, while the D3D11 crash subsequently occurs inside NVIDIA’s GPU shader/compiler stack.

Given that the issue reproduces with both D3D11 and D3D12 and without addons, this appears potentially related to the rendering/shader path in build 69913 or its interaction with the current NVIDIA driver.

I have retained the complete .txt crash reports and can provide them if useful.

I considered doing a fresh install of a previous NVIDIA driver dates from July 28th but I think I’ll just wait for this to hopefully be patched so I can play

I’m having this exact same issue with repeated crashes and same error however I’m running an Nvidia 4060.

Also getting this on a nvidia 4080

I’m also seeing repeated ERROR #132 ACCESS_VIOLATION dialogs on an RTX 5070 Ti, now on beta builds 70205 and 70235. Only World of Warcraft is affected in my experience. In some sessions, I can continue playing behind the error dialog.

Environment

  • RTX 5070 Ti, 16 GB VRAM
  • Intel i9-13900K; 64 GB RAM
  • Windows 11 x64
  • ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI, BIOS 2801
  • 5120 × 1440 display
  • Classic / Forever beta 1.60.1 through Battle.net; WowB.exe

Five recorded failures on October 5, 2026

Times are the local times written by the client. All five minidumps record exception code 0xc0000005.

Time Beta build NVIDIA driver API Faulting module + relative offset Time in world
16:43:11 70205 617.14 / 32.0.16.1714 D3D11 nvgpucomp64.dll + 0x314a684 3:00

The faulting modules were identified from the exception instruction addresses and minidump module lists. All five text logs record no addons loaded, zero Lua errors, and GxDeviceLostCount 0.

Troubleshooting already attempted

  • Cleared NVIDIA DXCache / GLCache, Windows DirectX shader cache, and WoW cache.
  • Clean-installed 617.14; crashes continued.
  • Closed Wallpaper Engine completely for the 17:03 failure; it still occurred.
  • NVIDIA overlay was already off.
  • Tried Secondary Lighting on Fair. The 17:30 log confirms graphicsLightMode 0 and giQuality 1; it still failed.
  • Rolled back to 610.88. The 20:27 log confirms that driver and another NVIDIA-module failure.
  • A further 20:35 failure on 610.88 occurred in WowB.exe under D3D12, again with Fair lighting (graphicsLightMode 0, giQuality 1).
  • The logs include failures under both D3D11 and D3D12.

The client changed from build 70205 to 70235 between the 17:30 and 20:27 tests. The 20:27 session had High lighting; the 20:35 session had Fair lighting and D3D12. This is not a controlled driver comparison, but the older driver did not prevent the recorded failures.

Reproduction

Launch the beta through Battle.net, log into a character, enter the world, and play normally. Several failures occurred while questing in Westfall. I don’t have a deterministic action that triggers every failure.

Blizzard crash reporter IDs

  • 17:03:16: 9A065D15-D987-482C-8FBC-CCBED9778CA2
  • 17:30:20: 79E75D93-87A2-4349-9C72-704E691ACF50
  • 20:27:54: 37093E7B-C8BA-4B83-A5AB-3EAAFFD22629

Could Blizzard investigate whether these reports identify a known beta rendering / shader issue or an interaction with the NVIDIA driver? Is there a confirmed workaround or a targeted diagnostic capture needed?

The module names identify where the exceptions occurred; they do not prove the underlying cause. I have retained all five text logs, five application minidumps, and three screenshots for private support review. I also sent NVIDIA a report with all five text logs attached.

Same issue on my 5070ti, happens very frequently in westfall especially when taking the flight path to stormwind. Elwyn Forest doesn’t crash though.

My 5070ti is undervolted 900mv @ 2750 with a +1450mhz memory clock and I don’t appear to have as bad of an issue with crashing as other folks. I can typically get 30-45 minutes of playtime before a crash.

I have a 5090 that I usually undervolt. You might try increasing the maximum voltage, but I have had similar graphics driver crashes as high as 950mv. Your best bet is to run WoW with a power limit (I have mine set to 80%). That way it will always feed full voltage to the GPU.

No crashes in that situation.

I’ll check it out when I’m home, it was just shocking to me last night how many times it happened in Westfall. Didn’t have nearly he issue in Elwyn, dun morogh.
