People are asking about the absurd 128GB install, but the awesome employees at Blizzard that everyone absolutely loves have been deciding not to explain that it is or is not actually a 128GB install, nor whether or not it takes resources from Midnight. No, they just want people wondering if their beta access actually starts on the 17th or the 23rd when they finally download the installation (no, not everyone has your 8Gbps connection that you probably aren’t actually running on a >=10Gb LAN anyway, bum troll genius, veritable John von Neumann).
I’m betting that F’s actual install size will depend on what other version(s) of WoW you have installed since some assets can be reused. Its the same with the various Classic installs. 128GB is probably the max if its the only flavor you have.
It is a 128GB install because it uses the Retail client.
It has been confirmed that Forever is going to use the same API as retail, thus it makes since to assume we will only have to download a portion of that total size.

thats really bad optimization then since 99% of retail isnt in forever

WoW Classic and Wow Forever should be similar in size and most of their content is the same.
If someone has WoW Classic, they shouldn’t need to download that much.
It’s not (or shouldn’t be) an issue.
I’m hoping it’s less if you have Retail installed… I don’t know if I have that kind of space.

I was thinking about this earlier. I ended up removing around 300gb of games I never even play from Steam and Epic. I’m guessing it will be similar to the way Classic is, it will share assets with Retail WoW. I think Classic still took up something like 3GB of something extra, but it wasn’t extreme like 128GB would be.
Some article I read said that we’ll be able to download it after the Q&A. I’ll be at work so not going to be able to get it installed and playing til the evening. There isn’t really a rush, is there? We’ll be capped at level 30 and it is supposed to be slow going.
Should call up the helldivers engineering team given the absurd reduction in client size since that game came out

Yeah, this becomes my main issue, if the assets are shared, sure, but as is I already struggle to keep my ssd below 95% full (I keep so many 40+ gb rpgs installed v.v )
Lenovo had a sale right when I had a bit of a windfall before it all went to hell and same, I should have splurged for 2tb in retrospect.

We have that much space even before the cleanup, so that’s good. 
The game has this smart tech where it downloads essential files first and the rest can download in background while you play. It’s really cool.
oh there is a reddit post or something that tells you what directory you can delete to free up space, it can clear up a crapton, course if you dont pay attention and try to do it a second time months later and you delete the wrong directory, you will lose a day downloading the game,lol
