The existence of rated pvp brackets like 2v2, 3v3, 5v5 would bridge a gap for a large portion of the playerbase looking to play WoW forever.
All the classic andies who prefer wPvP and BGs would be unaffected. The playerbases do not overlap. World PVP population would remain stable, Bg population would remain stable while the playerbase who has kept WoW arena alive since 2007 (19 years) would play arena.
WoW: Forever is not a no changes game. The addition of arenas does not negatively affect the rest of the pvp playerbase in any way. You can just opt to not play them. I don’t think this should be controversial.
Arena got an 85% approval rating in the community poll: wowclassic.plus/content/systems?p=156
Edit:
The compromise some players seem open to is keeping all PvP gearing in BGs and world PvP, with arena offering only cosmetic rewards like titles or tabards. Personally, I don’t think it even needs rewards. A ladder with MMR is enough.
I’m also not asking for the game to be balanced around arena. Adding it shouldn’t mean changing classes, diminishing returns, or CC durations to accommodate it.
Xaryu raised concerns about DRs and long CC durations, and I understand his point. But I’d be happy to play with those limitations. Twenty-second Polymorph? We know what we’re signing up for. It’s Classic, and I’m not expecting a perfectly balanced competitive mode.
Keep the gearing incentives in BGs and world PvP, and let arena be an optional mode for people who enjoy it. I’m willing to compromise on balance, gearing, and even cosmetic rewards. I just want a place to queue arena with friends and climb a ladder.
