A magnificent new addition to players’ mount collections is coming in the 12.1.5 content update, and we’ve got all the details for you here.

When 12.1.5 releases, you’ll find the Sporebearer Fungal Strider for sale in Harandar for 5 Million gold. This rideable beast will include a mailbox, a repair vendor, and a novel utility – for the first time, players will be able to customize the NPCs who are available on the mount when the mount is summoned.

A vendor in Harandar will sell you access to the additional, interchangeable NPCs, including NPCs such as an auctioneer or a transmogrifier. We’re also considering adding additional mount NPCs in future patches.

Players who collect more NPCs than the mount can hold at a time will be able to switch them in and out by speaking to an NPC in Harandar.

The Sporebearer Fungal Strider mount will only be available for purchase until the end of World of Warcraft: Midnight, however, the purchase of and access to the interchangeable NPCs will remain available indefinitely.

Ah yes, another FOMO tactic so we can grind gold endlessly or spend tons of real life cash on WoW tokens…just so you guys can re-release this mount in the future as a cash-shop variant that is objectively better lol.

I learned from the OG Caravan Brutosaur. Blizz, ya’ll suck for this.

i mean i used my bruto as the only option for what like 4 years? i think it was well worth the price for me lol. also considering things like sl that didnt have a ah in oribos

I think I’ll pass.

I already got the shop one with AH/Mailbox and I have a Yak for Mog/Repairs. I’ve got 2 mil gold and could grind out the other 3 mil, but I’d rather save it for other vanity items. The only thing that could possibly make me reconsider is a Bank vendor, but I already have easy bank access from engineering.

Could see them being leery about adding this cause of exploiters or explorers getting into places you really aren’t supposed to be. …imagine getting summoned into a death plane that’s really far away from your location – you’d see a loadscreen, hear a ‘woosh’ mid-loadscreen, then you’ll see that your character is dead and gone, and the camera hasn’t moved from where you were, with everything getting much lower quality graphically or outright deloading if you’re far enough away from where you were supposed to be summoned to.

Wait, so you’re making a time-limited thing have future perks (for purchase?), in future expansions, once the time-limited thing is unavailable?

If this were not time-limited I’d be exited and it’d become a goal. With it time-limited … ugh. All that farming. It feels spiteful as time-limited because I have to choose between doing this grind I want to do, or never getting this very cool-mount. It’s basically the cooler a time-limited thing it is, the more I resent the game.

Will this mount be limited to the standard 2 NPC limit or will it potentially have spots for something like 4 NPCs? That would be a definite bonus.

Given how many times we’ve seen M+ multi-person mount rescue/lifegrip skips, I doubt they’ll allow it to have 3 seats, as that could impact how viable they are depending on the meta comp this season.

Never came close to having 5 mil gold. 2 yes, though it’s gone down the decor money pit.

Guess it will be one on the conspicuous consumption items like the original brutosaur.

This one is out of my reach.

Look, I’m not saying it’s not cool. It is. I want it. I have the gold for it.

But you know what my problem is with this?

The opportunity cost issue is becoming entirely too big of one, faced entirely too often with entirely too little respect from Blizzard.

Gold and USD are, basically, the same thing at this point.

Because I can take the gold in WoW and spend it on this mount and have a cool mount.

OR

I can take the gold I’ve earned in WoW, sell tokens, add that USD to my Blizzard account, use that money to pay for services that I can’t otherwise access via gold and simply wait for a new AH mount to come out that I can purchase via USD.

Which is objectively smarter, because the USD value on the 6.5 million gold is over 300 USD right now.

So I can’t, as a reasonable person, buy this amount when I could just take the SAME gold and pay for WoW for the next 2-3 years instead.

Or just for 1-2 years, then buy the next AH mount. I’d still come out ahead.

I’m so sick of this game treating gold and USD like commodities. I don’t want to break out the calculator every time there’s a new purchase, but when values start becoming hundreds of dollars for a mount, it’s irresponsible not to.

Because at the end of the day, there are two kinds of people that buy this mount:

People that don’t realize it’s objectively a bad financial decision and hurt their household to get it.

And people that have enough money that it doesn’t matter.

But by making it a TIMED sale, by doing it this way, you’re only applying pressure on ONE of those groups. You’re not forcing them, but you are used-cars-salesman-ing them, and no one likes those people.

You’re literally adding microtransactions to microtransactions and then saying there MAY be future microtransactions on top of that, but if you don’t buy now, you’ll never know! Maybe it’ll be the next big thing! Better buy it now!

It feels scummy.
