Sunwell is not retconned
I’m gonna go full shill and play defense for Blizzard on this one.
Some of yall are saying they retconned the Sunwell in this animation to be a source of light pre-TBC.
I don’t really see that as the case.
The character talking about the Sunwell never said it was a source of light, he just called it a font of energy, and says he prays to the light that the Sunwell is kept safe.
High Elves did have light worshipers during this period. Our priests in Warcraft III game were High Elves.
The golden color of the Sunwell in this animation is also consistent with the “Fury of the Sunwell” patch trailer from 14 years ago that depicts the Sunwell pre-scourge invasion.

Not bad… was one of the more accurate depictions of what the scourge actually was.
Little annoyed at the retcon… the sunwell had nothing to do with the light till the end of the burning crusade it was a font of arcane power…. They also seem to be ignoring the whole enslaving a naaru while ripping its life force out to be paladins bit…
Still good short overall.

I’m sure that all still happened, it’s just not the story they wanted to tell. This one, they wanted to focus on the Scourge and pre-WoW.
The whole Naaru kidnapping is/was a key part of the Blood Knights.

Finally, we are returning to Azeroth, to the true Warcraft.
No Space-islands or new continent, but an expansion built on old lore, Silvermoon and Amani lands, please, continue doing this. Expand the lore of Azeroth and stop giving us random new islands.

Having a Naaru chained up was the only way they could use the Light for a time, because the Sunwell was out of order.
They just turned the other cheek and pretended it was for a noble cause lol.
And ofc later on, we find out M’uru knew it was going to happen anyway- he let it happen. So there could be more Paladins, to fight the Legion, etc.
A’dal tells us this later.

I don’t think it was a retcon. I don’t think Liadrin’s dad was saying that the Sunwell was a fountain of Light Magic. I think he was just seeing the Sunwell and being inspired by it in his Priestly faith in the Light.
Ultimately, because the Universe was created by the collision of the Light with the Void, everything is at least a tiny little bit related to the Light, even the Arcane.

Nah, the sunwell was always arcane. They describe it’s creation in the novels. It doesn’t have anything to do with the light till tbc. Then it’s infused with a prime naaru ‘s core.
It’s a retcon or a mistake. The name sunwell was from it being a imitation of the moonwell. It wasn’t tied to the light.
