Summary

(The Past: Dalaran)

  • Magister Umbric, Grand Magister Rommath, and the traitor Dar’Khan Drathir were once close friends while studying magic in Dalaran.

  • Dar’Khan found a coded book and used it to open a portal to the Void. A monster came out and attacked them.

  • Umbric managed to close the portal. However, when he touched the Void magic, he realized it was not just empty darkness; it was full of energy and infinite possibilities.

  • The Void immediately tried to tempt Umbric to kill his friends to gain power, but he rejected the thought.

(The Past: Post-Scourge Silvermoon)

  • After the Scourge destroyed Silvermoon and the Sunwell, the elves suffered from magic withdrawal. Umbric found Dar’Khan’s old book in a ruined building.

  • Umbric studied the book again. He wanted to find a way to use Void energy to save his people from starving, but without opening dangerous gates like Dar’Khan did.

  • The Void showed Umbric visions where he ruled Silvermoon as a god or served Kael’thas as a dark advisor. He realized these visions were traps and refused to enslave his people.

  • Rommath caught Umbric performing a Void ritual. Rommath was furious because Dar’Khan had already betrayed them to the Scourge, and he believed the Void was too dangerous.

  • Rommath demanded Umbric destroy his research and promise never to use the Void again. Umbric refused, believing the elves needed more than just the Sunwell to survive. Rommath had Umbric and his followers exiled from Silvermoon.

(The Present: Windrunner Village)

  • Umbric, now a Void Elf (Ren’dorei), returned to the Ghostlands with his followers. They came because they sensed a Void threat targeting Silvermoon.

  • Rommath arrived with an army of Blood Knights and Spellbreakers to stop them. He told Umbric to leave or die.

  • Umbric explained that Xal’atath and the Void are threats, and he wants to help protect their home. Rommath prepared a fire spell to attack, but Umbric used a counterspell to stop it without hurting Rommath.

  • Umbric asked Rommath to trust him one last time. Rommath agreed to let them stay in Windrunner Village but warned that if they went near Silvermoon City or the Sunwell, they would be executed.

  • Before leaving, Rommath gave Umbric a handkerchief for a small cut on his neck, showing he still cares about his old friend despite their differences.

Former Magister? Is he just Umbric now?

This is pretty insulting. Elves don’t need to learn magic from humans. They taught the humans to use magic.

You do realize Dalaran was a place where Elves AND Humans went to learn magic, as well as every other interested race?

Yes, the Elves taught Humans magic, and that flourished into what Dalaran became: a home for those seeking to learn more magic. So, it’s not farfetched to believe that Elves would naturally go there to, you know, study magic.

Especially since Kael’thas also studied magic in Daleran and even, during the purge the leader of the Blood Elves in Daleran said it was their city too.

Humans aren’t the only people in dalaran, there were/are lots of high elves there too. It’s also canon that humans learn magic much quicker and are far more adept at using it, so it’s not out of the question for elves to learn from humans either.

Elves aren’t born knowing how to use magic. They have to learn as well.

There’s a line from Rommath that implies that Umbric is bisexual; I guess that’s fitting.

All of your posts are normally positive. Pretty much the opposite of mine. Stay true to yourself and never change bud. Also love the gnome love .

So like… canonically, in midnight’s own lore. They didn’t study in dalaran, they studied in magister’s terrace.

Edit: Also obligatory “And they were roommates…”

This is LITERALLY the winderunner sisters genderbent.

One dead, one void, one stayed true to the path.

But hey its all bros right? so its all good!

Void elves are an abomination and should never have been a centerpoint for a wow expansion. They need to suffer consequences, they need to have strife and struggles, this is so dumb from a written point. The reader is FAN-TASTIC but the story is just windrunners with boys.
