Hello Australia,

We’re going to start with an apologies, as you are now well aware, Maladath (AU) has become Maladath (distinctly US). This wasn’t meant to come as a surprise on patch day, instead being part of our announced patch changes ahead of time but it was missed and that is entirely on us.

So, belatedly let’s quickly fill in on the why, and what’s next.

When we looked at populations for Classic Anniversary toward the end of Vanilla it was clear that Maladath (AU) had fallen critically low as most players had opted to play on the massively larger US realms. From a Server & Live standpoint when we were making our new environments for Classic Anniversary to live on and progress to Burning Crusade it did not make sense to build out an additional AU environment to support such a small, and still shrinking realm. So we came to the decision as we have done in Season of Mastery, Season of Discovery and Mists of Pandaria Classic, to close the realm to new character creation and open Free Character Transfers to larger US realms. Since we were not rebuilding a new AU site, we needed people to be able to still access Maladath to transfer off, so we hooked some US hardware up to the Australian database (which, between you and I is bonkers that we have a realm running with a database connection the other side of the planet) so that people could still exit the realm.

None of this was meant to be a surprise, and we’re extremely sorry for the communication breakdown.

Where does that leave us? With the new Burning Crusade Classic client that everyone should have just patched onto, Free Character Moves are now enabled and functioning once again on Maladath, and you can transfer to either the PvP or PvE US realms. Maladath will remain available, you do not need to rush if you need to plan moves with guilds, friends etc. Maladath will remain running in it’s hybrid US/AU setup for the foreseeable future.

The character transfers aren’t working at the moment, the character screen just refreshes without any change. Characters don’t lock as they usually do during a transfer, we’re still able to log in. Please look into this, thank you.

Transfer not working for me either. Progresses through as if successful then nothing happens.

So you waited until everyone resubbed and swiped their credit cards for max level characters and store mounts, then you turn around and spit in our mouths and tell us we don’t deserve our own server anymore?

Maladath was perfectly happy with a tight-knit community that we loved.

We don’t want to play on terrible lag from the other side of the world.

Revert this atrocity. Australia deserves our server back, you have no right to kill off the Australian playerbase like this. Absolutely disgraceful.

I understand that you tried in some way to help Australian players, but you didn’t consider that by moving the Nightslayer server from Chicago to the West Coast you would be negatively impacting the latency of all South American players, as well as the US players who live near Chicago and on the East Coast? Not to mention that you didn’t give any advance notice, and many players bought character boosts and mount and now need to request refunds. This is a huge lack of respect for your customers.

This whole prepatch has been a huge mess lol.

  • Roughly 30 hours downtime
  • Boosts not working as intended at first
  • OCE realm randomly getting yeeted
  • Honor prices

I get that it’s a small team over at classic, but please stop being lazy. The demand for this game is through the roof.

So, really keen to get my toons transfered but how do you do this. I dont see any options to actually transfer my toons?

Remove your mailbox and auction house items, update the client and then you should see it on the top right of the character creation screen. It’s not working properly for everyone at the moment though.

So you kill our realm without telling us. Then your transfers don’t work, and this is your method of apology?

Is your department run by a bunch of flogs? Or you trying to live up to American stereotypes?

It is fairly insulting. People choose the server they play on with intent.
