Oh no, I learned my lesson from your previous returning player feature! It screwed up all my bag sorting, force me to redo all my action bars, and makes you lose your place on quest chains trying to figure where I left off.

I am not falling for that again!

Those who whined and complained and made videos of new player experience being confusing or whatever 11.2.7 will make those people eat their words.

I sure hope you guys have done a better job of it this time. But while you’re looking at smoothing out experiences I hope you’ll also take a look at Chromie Time. Because that is a system absolutely brimming with potential that just isn’t being utilised. It shouldn’t just be for leveling. It should be a means of replaying old expansions in their entirety at any level. Smooth that out, please.

I can only hope that 11.2.7 experience will be especially more hand holding than say ever before.

Best update

That 2nd part is a great idea. I like that alot actually. Also I think it will be a better job this time. sounds like its kinda what you want from the play out the entire expansion because they will be doing story mode raids and all the patches while leveling and I think that will help tell teh story alot.

The better answer here would have been to use the Timewalking system, where you play through a streamlined version of the expansions leading up to wherever you want the players to end up (Probably The War Within). This way, you give new players the lore up to the current storyline, and they’ll know what’s going on. Exiles Reach is horrible and needs to be scrapped, same with Chromie Time.

As for returning players, you seem to be doing a streamlined version of The War Within, which is a great idea! Not everyone wants to play through the full storyline at this point in the game. So why can you do this with The War Within and not the other expansions?

I think you missed the whole point of this article.

Exiles reach is being fully revamped with new story and new everything and from there you will be taking flight to dragonflight and continue the story there. And from waking shore you are level through all of the dragonflight patch content and that would take one to level 70. And from there new players are placed into recap war within and that is where they will level from 70-80 in a few hours or more.

With the amount of work y’all are putting into this, I’m getting pretty excited.

I’m interested in this, but for an alt I might want to level. Will this be available for me, a current player, that wants to create a brand new alt?

These, and also look into updating/fixing these same problems with the Gear Update system (which I am almost sure you are applying to the returning character). There is no reason to go full blank slate on these characters, and then having to spend time getting them back to where they were, pre-mindwipe.

  • New Gear: I’m sure this seems unavoidable, but if the returning character’s existing gear is comparable, or even close, don’t do this. Even if you have to apply new gear, can all of it have a sell price of at least 1 copper or 1 silver? Destroying items is slow and unnecessary, and probably confusing to new players.
  • Action Bars: This is one of my biggest pet peeves about the gear update system. Often, the character has specific macros, mounts or flight forms, toys, skyriding abilities, professions, or specific items already on their action bars somewhere. Wiping the entire thing is a bad experience. Every time. Especially for returning players (and Gear Updates where Keep Quests is selected), there is no reason to default these.
  • Talents: Will there be a popup, showing the key talents that you chose? For example, returning Marksman Hunters might not know that the default is No Pet, but that there is an option to turn it back on.
  • Transmog: With the new system, if the character has a saved transmog, will that still be applied?

add permanent winds of fortune to dragonflight and start zones so leveling isn’t a total grind.

I can’t find my mount, lol. It’s been 8 years

For the love of Brann, yes. This. Chromie Time could be so much more than it is.

This reminds me, since I was just collecting some Gear Updates on characters, and do they remove your glyphs, without returning them to you via mail? I could have sworn that my top Shadow Priests all use [Glyph of Shadowy Friends]. When I logged into my Draenei Priest after the Gear Update, it was gone. I had to obtain a new one and reapply it. Has anyone confirmed this?

Gear updates work like Boosts, in that they effectively delete and remake the character so that’s probably what happened.

Absolutely. I just wish they would consider glyphs (maybe a bug, or oversight), and mail you those as well. Some of them can be expensive.

Dropping them into Dragonflight probably makes the most sense to familiarize them with the “current” world, but Dragonflight doesn’t feel like a new player experience to me. It lacks the feeling of thematic progression the way zones did in vanilla/Cata did.

i.e. You start out as a nobody, you’re fighting wolves and brigands. Then you get trusted to handle more organized threats, then more supernatural or deadly ones. The way it is here, it’s like “You’re a brand new recruit, welcome to the Horde/Alliance. Now go fight living storms and enormous dragons and the giant dudes that hunt dragons.”

  • Press and Hold option now works with the Single Button Assistant.

I wonder if this will actually work because the hold to cast doesn’t even work with most melee abilities.
