$15 a month for a 14 year old game?

...again the main problem seems to be you need to own wow and sub to retail to play classic. This is an issue as blizzard is lumping subs together to try and make it look like retail isn't dying.

Granted they didn't specify what iteration of WoW you need to buy, so base game is what 10 bucks?

There is no base game to buy anymore. You pay a sub fee and you get access to all content prior to the current expansion.

Also, I paid $15 a month in 2005, and I have no problem paying $15 a month now.

How many games did that $15 in 2005 get you?

Only 1! Isn't it great that now I get 2?
LOL@ this thread.
Don't like the subscription model? Don't play.
Also, do yourselves a favor and get a job - $15 is absolutely nothing these days.
I don't understand the concept of not drowning in tokens in retail from the gold you make literally for standing around picking your nose. I've never paid Blizzard a cent in my life and have enough resources to play Classic without touching BfA for almost two years and I put in no effort to reach that status
Fanilla cry babies back at it again.. i wish Blizz cancel classic bcz of this fanilla toxic community and shut down private servers like they did with nostlrios or what ever the name.. i wana laugh more
You're not paying anything for Classic.....
Y’all are so cheap lol. Go get a job. If $15 a month is going to hurt your financials - you should be placing your priorities elsewhere. If classic was free, you would be paying for what you get.
rEEEEE Give me my game for fREEEEEEEEEEE ...

They aren't going to give you something they're having to invest time and money into, that you begged for, for free. We have asked for this for years, and we are finally getting it. Stop complaining for once in your life LOL.
When Classic launches, I hope Blizzard does two things:

1) Strip away the ability to post on forums without a sub.

2) Go full Disney on the people making private servers.

The price to play Classic is a $15 subscription.

Nobody rides for free.
Classic servers are not free to run. Customer support staff are not slaves, they get paid. Pay the sub, enjoy the game.
I've read countless posts over the years of people saying they would gladly pay double, even triple the monthly fee for a Blizzard Classic server.

This thread is a perfect example of the old cliche, you can't please everybody.

Not really asking for free but....since you mention it.
How many other online games charge you after you've paid the box price?
(and I did pay the box price)
Go ahead.....tell everyone here.
Now how about a game that ISN'T going to get updates other than initial bug fixes?
Hmmmmmm.
Now considering I'm not dumb enough to pay for the current state of the game and requests a smaller sub fee for just vanilla, how is this not reasonable?

Of course those that have a current sub and get the game for free come here to complain. You all have weak and shallow minded standards. Look at the game your paying for now. Hate to break it to you but there are superior games to the current wow. Lots of them in fact.
If they aren't free, they stop at the box price.

Get over yourselves. If this argument was turned completely around, then you should be paying $30 monthly for both. Want it fair? Then don't talk about it, be about it. Demand 15.00 for each. Those that are asking for vanilla want JUST vanilla. Thats why private servers were even made.

"A fool and his money are soon parted". You people would eat spoonfulls of dirt from a prison yard as long as Activision/Blizzard/EA was the one giving it to you.
Wait, you don't have 15.00 a month to spare for a game? Are you homeless? Perhaps check out the local job bank.
I doubt the $15 will change, and I don't think we'll ever see a separate sub for Classic.

Having a separate sub for Classic means that Blizzard cannot show off the increase in subscriber count to their share holders and play it off as "The Warcraft brand is growing stronger".

Having a separate sub would be admitting to both their shareholders, as well as their players, that they consider BfA a failure. Which is the worst thing you can possibly do as far as brand image goes.
Posted this back in June. Looks like I was wrong about a one-time fee to buy the Classic game license, but the part about sub fees is still relevant.

Game and expansion sales are to recoup the cost of development, plus profit. Subscription fees generally go toward the maintenance and upkeep of the ongoing game (I'm sure there's also some profit built-in). The existence of a Classic development team and (likely) additional or dedicated GMs points to development costs (i.e. paid for by selling the license) and ongoing maintenance costs (i.e. sub fee). This does not rule out bundle deals with modern WoW expansions / subscriptions, but it does suggest a certain amount of cost to Classic players. I am happy to pay for that much entertainment.

Agreed, 15 dollar separate sub, remove it from the bundle.

Nobody rides free.

This would also remove the excuse that blizzard would be competing with itself, as both products are priced the same. Hey, you fine retail folks didn't like the other alternatives so this one sounds pretty good. The other glorious fact is it creates new income where the bundle did not. Shareholders would certainly dig it.

It also satisfies the #nochanges crowd spouting it cost 15/mo 14 years ago. 14 years ago it also wasn't bundled, that's as blizzlike as it gets.
They're primarily doing it to boost retail numbers to please shareholders. Honestly I think it isn't a bad idea because we will constantly get small influxes of new retail players every time retail wow goes through huge content droughts.

Realistically they should offer the option for a separate classic sub that is cheaper than retail sub, but that will never happen because, again, they need to boost retail sub numbers,
Either way idc because I have over 2m gold saved to spend purely on sub time for classic
I have no problem at all paying 15 a month for classic , a game I will love to play . cable cost me 200 a month lol . do the math on that one lol .
This post is hilarious. I'll gladly pay $15/M for classic. If you cant afford $15 bux a month then mabye wow isnt for you.

People act like "$900 over 5 years" is a lot of money. I spend more on coffee than i do on WOW. This has got to be a joke.

Blizz made the right call with this one. Watch those sub numbers sky rocket.
Origin is currently offering me 125 games for $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year!
