1.12 AV is a huge, huge mistake

1.12 was not the catch up patch it was the last content patch. 2.0 was the catch up patch. And actually major changes to AV were finished by 1.11, which was even earlier.

That’s fine. More power to you. Judging by your level you’ve tolerated much more than a number of us who have been fighting for AV since the changes began within vanilla. I make it a point to not label a desire for a specific patch, as the actual content I speak about existed for multiple patches.

Agreed. However, the major nerf changes to AV began the moment Marks of Honor arrived. Coincidence?
Nope.

What? What do you call getting exalted in one weekend and getting r10 in half the time then?

What exact changes in 1.12 made that possible?

10+ years of zerging has conditioned players to know full well that zerging is the most efficient way to accumulate Marks of Honor , zerging will be the way it is played, despite the lack of reinforcements.

Changes did not happen in 1.12. They happened (the nerfs and removals) occurred from 1.8 to 1.11.

you could argue the title of this thread then…

when we speak about a nurfed AV or 1.12 AV, we are talking about the 1.11 AV.

Let’s assume you’re exalted and have your gear and mount from AV. Why would you go back there. If it’s efficiency you’re after then you’d be running AB till you were blue in the face.

And what is the reason you claim people want 1.5 AV? Fun? Weird maybe some people enjoy 1.12 AV more than 1.5, actually seems like a lot of people did…

That’s cool. I will agree in that fun is subjective. What is about the 1.12 that’s fun for you or what is it about pre 1.12 that you found to be not fun.

Pre 1.11 had too many NPC that were too powerful and that made pve the main objective of the map. And it did so in such a way that games just dragged on painfully long. By 1.11 AV was much more focused on pvp interaction(players mutually choosing to ignore each other is still player interaction) instead of players interacting with NPC’s.

In short I found early AV boring for a BG, it emphasized things that I already got in pve and that’s not why I’m in a BG.

Let me just say that the word epic gets tossed around a lot in the game industry, and in WoW marketing and even the game itself. The original AV is the only time I have ever stopped playing WoW or any other game and said to myself, “this is epic”.

It’s 14 or 15 years later and I still remember that moment. Ivus and Lokh, ground troops running by with griffons firing down from the sky… all the while a massive horde vs alliance battle in between… it was really nothing like anything I have ever experienced in gaming.

Devs… if there is any way to bring that back… please move heaven and earth to make it happen.

Dude… no… just… no. The NPC’s forced the two factions to play honest. They forced the horde to fight the alliance. It’s only after they removed all those NPC’s that the bg became a race to the generals. I might add that it’s a race in which both sides often try to avoid each other as much as possible. You’ve got it completely backwards.

I must’ve been playing different matches on Tich in Vanilla, because I remember long battles, but I also remember pre-made groups blasting through the map to the end, and this was in the introductory patch. Mines would slow but not stop you.

I also think it’s bizarre people are upset with Blizz for this decision, when it’s the playerbase that has chosen to Zerg.

Before I go further can I ask. Assuming the 1.12 AV was the only version that ever existed meaning not to be compared with the 1.5 AV. Would you say the gameplay you are describing as fun.

To be clear my issue is with blizzard and not you.

I had a lot more fun in 1.12 AV than 1.5 AV for the reasons I said. It actually felt like a BG, not a map where NPC’s controlled your actions.

Either way that’s a a player choice, if people zerg or whether they turtle. It’s not choice forced by the map. Reinforcements forced zerging just as much as 1.5 AV NPC’s forced turtles.

Neither is good, the map should provide objectives not dictate how to complete them.

Even though I doubt it will happen I’ll throw my hat in and say I sure would like to play old av again

How so? Do you not understand that any dance takes two to tango?

Um, not all dancing takes two. I believe you can solo figure skating. Also forgot about Irish dance and Step dance.

Fair enough any tango then
