I could be wrong, as I didnt do Bgs until mid BC. But wasnt the reason
why AV lasted for days, because no one would do the objective to win it?
Because everyone just ran around and fought?
And countering the zerg existed just about as soon as it started.
Reinforcements didn’t even promote the right kind of zerg. It just meant the otherside was too apathetic to care. Before reinforcements you had to work through pvp to make a zerg work, not through some pansy summoning of npcs…
No, the reason AV lasted for days was because races basically couldn’t happen. NPC archers would kill some people on the way to the objective, and those people resurrected on defense, so there was always some defense. And it didn’t take much defense to break up the zerg at the bridge or the gate house. Races basically didn’t work.
Since races didn’t work, people didn’t use them, and instead there was a huge initial clash on the field of strife. From there the front would move north or south. Sometimes commando groups of 5-10 would try to take an objective behind enemy lines, but usually it was a 40v40 wherever the fight was.
Both the bridge and the gate were highly defensible - much more so than today - so usually the fight would bog down at one of those two. And it could stay bogged down for days.
There was way more PVE after the NPCs were removed than before. Basically it changed from players plus NPCs versus players plus NPC to a race to see who could win their boss fight first.
What confuses me about removing NPCs, lowering health pools and other mobs from Classic AV is that we have better hardware than ever. We have a modern client that can utilize our processor’s cores more efficiently, we have better internet and stronger graphics cards. If anything Classic is opportunity to really experience an epic battlefield for Alterac Valley.
My conspiracy regarding this move is that Blizzard is concerned that there will be too much lag with that many NPC’s and players fighting in a single battle grounds.
It’s mostly about whether people want AV to be a PVE battle where you summon and fight NPC’s or an actual PVP battle where you fight the opposite faction.
Another example if player A has addons to help him/her play. Guess what player B and C will get the same addons not because they want to but to stay competitive.
Another example.
Let’s say you have freedom of speech but as soon as you say something another hates or dislikes you get life in prison. So, do you truly have it?
Point if someone can Zerg, we will all Zerg. Like it or not that is all it is.
Don’t be dumb. You can do it on your own time and let Darwin happen.
people can do that now tho, when was the last time you had a 4 minute pubstomp in AV? hell when was the last time you played an AV that didn’t turn into a turtlefest?
