11.0: Does anyone else hate the new allied race?

For all general purposes, they’re another flavor of dwarf for people to choose. Blizzard has no problems tweaking lore for other allied races, and I’d be surprised if they actually end up being any taller than normal dwarves in game.

But they aren’t.

I’ll be disappointed if they go back on it.

Zero feeling either way honestly.

We’ve had a small preview of something that is about a year out …

I don’t hate them. I was just hoping for something else. You know, something requested for years. Like Ogres.

The fact that I can still think of some interesting concepts for them makes them better than Drakthyr though.

Like, I kind of want to make a Shadow Priest or Warlock. A member of the Unbound who has come to radically despise the Titan’s edicts and thus takes an interested in the Void, Twisting Nether, and the realms of death in order to explore alternatives.

It’s all about Stoneform, which presumably Earthen will have some variant.

Given the game’s current design, Stoneform is the most powerful racial in the game’s history. Everybody in the RWF whose class can be a Dwarf is a Dwarf, for example. Ditto with the top-ranked M+ players. I played Horde for 19 years but finally had to give in and flip to Dwarf, myself.

If Earthen have Stoneform so people who want to play Horde can actually play Horde, then great, and that’s the reason.

If they don’t… then that’s just a big “then what was it even for?” moment.

(Nerfing Stoneform is the obvious solution, but it’s an Alliance racial so Blizzard won’t do that.)

Kinda wish they’d just have a unique race, instead of just giving us variants of what is already there. Saberon, the lizard/snake guys, maybe even those gargoyles.

I don’t hate it, just extremely lazy and uninspiring.

I think they will be coming as the expansion unfolds. So it’s possible that Blizzard didn’t want to announce it from the get go and have it be a surprise or hinted by the story beforehand. After all the impression I get is that we will be working with a group of rebel Nerubians, as not all of them are happy with the Queen aligning with the Void.

I like that a dwarven option will open up to the Horde, but it really depends on what their racial is.

I’m interested to see how they’ll handle Stoneform, because these guys ARE stone, and if their racial isn’t something like the dwarves then dwarves will be better at being stone than actual stones.

Also, will they leave a skeleton when they die? They shouldn’t have skeletons.

It’s not an allied race it’s a Dwarf Reskin…the 2nd Dwarf Reskin no less… If this is all they could come up with I would rather they just stop. Put in some real effort or don’t bother. I hate the skinny dragon but I will admit they were new, innovative and very cool functionally… To follow the Dracthyr up with another Dwarf reskin was a total miss.

Hard to be upset when they fit in perfectly with all the other extremely low effort allied races that could have, and probably should have been barber shop options. The power of precedent.

At least they bring something new to The Horde, which puts them at roughly Nightborne/Void Elf tier. Far from the bottom rung with the real dregs (Lightforged, Highmountain)

“living in a fractured society in decline”

As opposed to literally every other group of people in WoW which are in decline.

I’m not excited for it, that’s for sure - but jury is still out whether I’ll like them or not.

I don’t hate it, but I do not think it’s exciting either.

There are other races in the game that people have been asking for since forever such as Ogres, Naga, e.t.c. and all we are getting are neutral rock dwarves.

Allied Races are reskins. The only one that wasn’t a reskin was Kul Tiran.

And supposedly these are taller than dwarves. They should look different. But we’ll see.

They are not required to be reskins as we know by way of Dracthyr, Vulpera and KulTiran but the low effort versions are reskins… Emphasis on put in the work bro or just don’t bother…

Quality over quantity.

I don’t love or hate them, I did see a preview I think of one with like pink diamonds or whatever on Twitter which is pretty cool since I love pink. :dracthyr_heart: :dracthyr_heart: :dracthyr_heart:

Aren’t Dracthyr running on a modified worgen female frame

I don’t think they count as an allied race, though. Sad as it may seem, they’re supposed to be a full race addition to Azeroth.

Yup. Boring and unoriginal. But then, I dont think we need anymore races in the game.
