10/8/2020 - Repeated scan repair

I had a launcher update about two hours ago, but I still get the error.

showed an update for the launcher for me too. But did nothing to fix the problem.

Have tried both, nothing works. Does the same thing, scans, wants an update, then goes right back to scanning.
Still waiting on a update from Blizz. Wonder if that is ever going to happen.

How about when stuff like this happens and you fill out a ticket only to be told to go buy a new PC? Game worked fine before they tinkered with it and their response is go buy a new PC.

They told you to go buy a new pc? Are you kidding me? They broke something, not the players. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever seen. Just shows its all about money to them now, they could care less about the player base.

I just used LogGoblin to make a log file, but the log file was too large to email.

I got the same response from Google. I asked a blue about what parts of the log we need to send, if we can, to make it smaller. I didn’t hear anything back

i just uninstalled wow classic from the launcher and installed it back and it work
didnt worked few hour ago when i did the same thing

I dont even have classic installed anymore. And I also removed the ptr. Have nothing but retail.

i had the same problem on both classic and retail today. im reinstalling retail right now

Just tried to re-install classic, guess what. right back to the scanning loop and when that is done, wants an update, then right back to scanning. This is beyond the worst customer support I have ever seen from any company.

Can’t even run from the retail.exe, because it tells me World Of Warcraft is damaged, I should run the scanner. I am in a mobius strip of hell.

I mean, I’ve got other things I can do, but I don’t wanna. Plz fx k thx <3

OMG, my husband is the smartest man I know. He found a work around that works.
Go to the data folder, delete all IDX files. Below that look for data files that are 1kb only. Could be data 261,262,263 etc. Mine were different but were 1kb. Delete all the 1 kb files as they seem to be corrupted.
Restart the bnet app and let it run the scan. Amazing, the update worked.
Normally you would not want to touch a data file, but due to this 1kb size, it seemed strange. But make sure, you only delete 1kb files.
Good luck, hope this works for everyone still having issues.
This was from a post from Krossus and Vengence in battle.net app forums.
Thanks guys.
****make sure you have bnet app closed completely.

Worked for me too.

I tied it. It seems to be working for me. My battlenet app is not scanning, it is downloading. As I typed this, it went from playable to optimal.

Other than the IDX files in the data folder, what data.xxx files are you guys specifically deleting? There are NO data.xxx files in my folder that are 1kb so not sure what else to look for in respect to what to delete. There are 4 data.xxx files at 480b and 1 file at 974mb, all the rest list at 1.07Gb. All of these data files are dated to either 10/6 or 10/7. Any ideas on what, if anything I should delete? Obviously, I don’t want to exacerbate the the problem by randomly deleting data files. I run the game on a Mac if that makes any difference.

I sorted by size and deleted everything at 1kb without consideration for what extension it was. I am back in the world so it worked like that

You are so sweet Tormach. No token needed. Just glad this seems to be working for several people. Always happy to help anyone when I can. Have a great nite.
