With 10.1.7 launching, it looks like there are several new achievements for each profession, which is great. However, is there any reason why I have to recraft several items to earn the achievements?
Ex. “Dazzling Dragons” I technically completed this months ago, but now the achievement is live and I have 0 progress towards it. Seems like a serious overlook to people who crafted a lot prior to 10.1.7. I’m not really excited to spend gold or time farming to recraft things just for an achievement, but I’m also not excited that unless I do that, I won’t earn an achievement that I technically earned.
I submitted this bug report yesterday because the inconsistencies across the board were stacking up. I hope they take a look because while I don’t mind slowly getting some over time, some will be gold or time sinks to redo. I think possibly some are bugged, but hard to tell their intent when several are following different rules.
Agreed. It’s super frustrating, especially since something like the JC Dragons would be very trackable - if you’ve already gotten the first craft bonus, you’ve made it.
I was glad it retroactively tracked how many items I’ve DE’d, but it’s aggravating to have to recraft thousands of things for other professions.
Given that I’m an altoholic, I’ve had every primary profession maxed out on one character or another, at least through BfA. And guess what? Roughly half of them are showing zero progress.
Feel free to fix this soon, Blizz. (And I don’t mean Soon™.)
As a long time player and altoholic, I was actually kind of excited for this. Until the reality set in tonight.
Take my main, who has alchemy.
None of my prior potions, elixirs, flasks or phials counted. I have to start from scratch.
Ditto all the experimentation I did earlier in the expansion.
An achievement requiring a Cauldron recipe which drops either from extensive farming, or raiding Aberrus. Ugh, okay.
Craft ALL the Alchemist Stones. Again. Never mind how many I made in the past. And that’s not even getting into the absolutely -bonkers- requirements needed for the BFA stones… BOP mats from dungeons, BOP mats from raids, BOP quest items gathered from raids to upgrade the mandatory locations needed to craft some of these in the -first- place. Talk about a grind unto itself!
Herbalism: Did YOU know there were herb variants that you can only find in War Mode? Somehow, I didn’t. And yet I need to find those as part of the achievements. Sheesh.
Leatherworking: Oh yes, here’s this one requirement where you’re screwed if you didn’t get a random pattern from checks notes Pandaria, where you only get one shot a day and it might take upwards of three months to obtain it.
Okay, none of this is impossible, and I’m just bored and crazy enough to pursue some of these, but it’s still frustrating and deserving of a rant.
(Yeah, I’m stuck on "run dungeons for Tidalcores, run raids to upgrade your crafting stations, run other dungeons to obtain Hydrocore, run raid for Sanguicell, run raid for Breath of Bwonsamdi, WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE… No WONDER I never crafted these back in BFA.)
And let’s not even get into the absolutely ridiculousness of some of the other professions. The five different Engineering “Craft all these headpieces” achievements, which actually have cosmetic rewards?
You are echoing what I imagine many of us have done already.
Add to your list that I actually went back last year and leveled nearly all the professions in old content because I wanted to complete them….and now I have to do much of it again.
It’s just stupid.
same, though. i did the mammoth daily quest grind for the wotlk/cata jewelcrafting dailies over the span of an entire year to get the literally hundreds of tokens needed to buy all the patterns; i’ve done each of those dailies a minimum of 50 times and was relieved to be done with them once and for all when i bought the last pattern off those vendors. turns out for the achievement i need to do them all over again. same with the forged documents from inscription - i did that the entire way through WoD but now i have to hike back out to my garrison and start all over again? awwww man.
i’ve never thrown an alchemist stone away on my druid or a pair of goggles on my priest: i have six stones sitting in my bank and two goggles in void storage. The achievement progress is completely blank and I have to delete the ones in my bank to recraft them to get them to count for the achievement? what?
as someone who didn’t raid in bfa, but is a pattern collector, i was already doing this very slowly across my 7 alts to get the skill up patterns - and i deleted most of the tidalcores and breath of bwonsamdi’s when i was done. i’m so unimpressed.
also slightly miffed that some of these seem designed for people to have multiple crafters for the same profession, like the engineering wormhole achieve. my priest has been a gnomish engineer for over 10 years, but some of the wormholes on the list require goblin engineering - so either i have 2 engineers or swap specialties. i DO have 3 alchemists, all of whom have finished experimenting and nothing more to learn from doing so, so dumping artisan’s mettle into experimenting 100 times on them seems wasteful.
I just found out that the majority of the new profession achievements are not account wide, is this some new way to lose more players (collectors and achievement hunters) ?
Most of the achievements do, at least to me, look to be account wide, which is one of the few positive points to this.
But so many look like time or gold sinks, and I can’t imagine them existing save to frustrate completionists and die-hard achievement hunters.
I think for my own sanity I’ll need to pretend most of these don’t exist. (Like the Jewelcrafting ‘craft all the figurines’ or Leatherworking ‘make these hats’ or Engineering ‘make all the portals’ and so on.
I think what sucks is that if these had been introduced earlier, they wouldn’t feel quite so daunting or exploitive. But asking players who have been around for many years and already DONE a lot of this stuff – or players who did this stuff earlier in the expansion – to repeat their accomplishments for a few more achievement points is just wrong.
And asking people to go back to old content for lengthy quest chains or daily quests is also… tedious.
I know, I know, they’re just achievement points. Bragging rights. Epeen. Optional content. But some of us like goals like this. And a few actually -have- cosmetic rewards, which adds another layer of annoyance.
For me, I just wanted to complete Herbalism and Alchemy because it’s my main’s professions and I thought it would be nice. Now I’m like …
Fun fact - most engineering items have TWO ‘use’ thingys. One puts it into the toy box - which doesn’t need engineering and anyone can click them to do this. The second is after that, once it is in the toy box, and requires engineering to click it.
Sorry I’m a bit late responding but I only just found out about the new Profession Achievements after maxing out Fishing (trying, and failing, to get Draconic Recipes in a Bottle).
Seriously, the thought of having to make all those shirts, again!
Also, what is that You Had it Coming achievement?
If you really want Draconic Bottles, try farming the crab rare (Sir Pinchalot) over on Forbidden Reach. Just buy a stack or twenty of the thing used to summon him (Elusive Croaking Crab) off the AH, and go and hang out and summon him every time he’s ready. (Something like a five minute respawn.) You’ll get coins of the isles just about every time, bottles fairly often, and you can always take your coins to the Great Swog and exchange for bags (go for the silver bag!) which may have more recipes.
Trust me, it’s far easier than trying to fish them up normally. And you may also make good friends while living on that beach.
“You Had it Coming” is apparently an Engineering thing where you use the Swapblaster and die by falling off a high place in the process. I haven’t tried it myself.
I get it, keep us occupied, keep us busy. We can’t prove that we made some of the past items, my Sulfron Hammer was further crafted into Hand of Ragnaros and I don’t have a Sulfron Hammer that says crafted by X. Can’t prove it, it didn’t happen.
But…Dazzling Dragons. We have proof that we have crafted the dragons. We have earned our “First Craft” knowledge point. If we didn’t have to go out and get the randomly dropped treasure map for each of the gems…AGAIN…this wouldn’t be so bad for the cost when compared to some of the other achievements.
The hardcore farmers are going to make a mint off some of us for the misc world and raid drop recipes that are required for some of these achievements.
If we can provide proof, we should be given progress credit. Disenchanting had that proof in the system and was retroactively granted. Why not others where the evidence exists?
There are multiple achievements that cost upwards of 500k gold to complete because of the patterns and give 5 points. One Engineering achievement might even cost millions.
There are also multiple achievements that require an absoutely insane amount of grinding. We’re talking hundreds of hours for, again, 5 points.
I have no idea which absolute moron designed these. I have never, in my entire time with this game, seen such a thoughtless and asinine goldsink for no reward at all. And not making them retroactive is just icing on the cake and proof that absolutely 0 thought went into making them. All of these achievements are just terrible.
The JC big one Fantastic Figurines requires the King of Boars pattern which only drops for strength classes. My druid is my JC and to complete this I’d have to make a second class to get the drop. Same for any class since no one class can get all agi, stren, and int patterns to drop.
The 30 patterns it takes span all of Wow’s expansions too with expensive mats. Totally worth 5 points.
