Funny you should say this, Ret paladin was one of the specs I was most looking forward to trying the 1-button with! 
Rock that one button if you like! But, I would like to mention that alongside the one button option, they are also adding a rotation helper which tells you what to press next with the same priority that the one button feature uses. This still takes all the thought process out of it while not penalizing your dps by about 20-25%, you just press multiple buttons instead of one, but the game tells you what to press by highlighting your next button to use.
That is fine. That is what the 1-button option should be for. Doing world content, delves, lfr, heroic dungeons. No one will complain if that is the range of content 1-button is useful for.

Thats been happening in pugs for as long as I can remember. If youre not playing what is considered the top class for that season, youre not getting picked no matter how good you play your class or build. And once you get to Heroic raiding your dropped if dps isnt high enough.OBR isnt going to change that, especially with the damage penalty you get for using it . Not to mention hekili and maxdps has existed for years so its not like something similar hasnt already been available.

I probably won’t use 1-button unless I am 1. high enough to forget how to play, or 2. playing a healer so I can use 1 single button for DPSing between healing instead of cluttering my keybound bars with DPS abilities I don’t have the muscle memory for.

I play all classes but usually only 1 spec for each class. I will definitely fiddle with the one button thing when I have to do something or want to do something of the other specs.
What comes to mind is all of the old legion artifact weapon chains, for example on my warrior I’ve done Prot and fury I will use this for the arms. There’s no real challenge since I oitgear so that will be silly fun.
