Wc3 makes my pc to crash

Heya,

Wtf is wrong with this game? I can’t even play it with friends.
1 game on 2 (custom) my pc does crash and graphic card’s fans are like 200% speed…

It’s not related to old PC or anything like I’ve read around, my pc does cost $3500, I’ve a 2080Ti / i9 9900K / etc.

Such issue shouldn’t happen, the game is causing issues to my computer, hard crash is never good for any CPU, why your game does harm my computer?

Here is the reply I posted on your same thread over in Bug Report forum where you describe the crash as a blue screen crash.

The fact an application “makes my PC to crash” means that there is likely something wrong with your computer than with “this game”.

This could be malfunctioning hardware. It could also be buggy or incompatible drivers.

Just because they are new does not mean they work reliably. I suggest verifying they are stable under high loads with benchmarks like Furmark. If using any OC, even from factory, revert it in case it is unstable.

Even correctly functioning hardware can still be unstable with buggy drivers. Try clean installing the graphic driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Make sure Windows 10 is the latest stable branch (November 2019). Make sure there is no malware installed on the PC.

Warcraft III is an application. If the hardware cannot cope with executing it then the problem is with the hardware. It is like if nailing in nails with a hammer starts breaking a hammer the fault is with the hammer and not that the nails are “too hard”.

I have had several GPUs arrive defective on purchase, and these are from reputable brands as well, brought from reputable OEMs like PC Specialist. They were replaced and lived a useful functional life afterwards (one of them still works even, over a decade later). Just because something was expensive does not mean it necessarily works correctly. A 2080 ti has the same chance of malfunctioning on arrival as a 2060, possibly even more because of the higher clock speeds.

It’s not related to my computer, I’m running a lot of ultra hd games and crash never happened and still doesn’t happen on ANY game except war3.

I’m issueing this just on wc3 when a game does start, a custom game, for e.g Dota and I didn’t count but it’s like the 20th times that my PC crashes on this exact moment: Lobby starts > Loading bar finished > game starts > 10s later pc freezes.

I know this is not related to my computer but the game itself, something related to wc3 makes my PC crash and I’ve no idea what it is…
Again, it only happens on wc3 and only when the game starts.

That is not proof that your computer is working properly. Just because it can run X without crashing does not mean Y or Z might not crash due to issues with it. The fact it is crashing to begin with means either driver or hardware issues as a correctly working system should as good as never crash.

Check GPU and CPU thermals in those 10 seconds before the crash. You can test the maps alone (empty lobby except yourself) to avoid upsetting anyone during the tests.

The fact your GPU fan runs to 100% usually means GPU thermals.

Likely due to the particular structure of the shaders. Or the large video memory usage. Basically it is loading the hardware or drivers in a slightly different way from other games. The hardware and drivers are meant to be able to handle that if they were working correctly.

Found the issue: PC crash (blue screen) - #6 by Feely-21968

Hey, Feely! Thanks for the report on this! I responded to this thread that mentioned the same situation with WC3 shadows causing freezing/monitor issues as well.

I am curious if we could check for something. Are you currently on Windows 10? If so, could you try checking for the KB4535996 update recently? It is under the Windows’ Settings > Update & Security. Click on View Update History, then see if KB4535996 is recently on there.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues with Shadows and turning them off helps? Would you happen to have this update as well?

I will continue to monitor for any similar reports. Thanks for the details!

Hi @Caterpepi
Yes I’m on W10 (1909), but there ain’t an update with this number.
I’ve two updates starting by KB4535

  • KB4535101
  • KB4535669

Both are related to .NET Framework 3.5 / 4.7.2 and 4.8
Last update about .NET is KB4538156

Can you please install all windows updates that you found and re test? The one we asked about was one that you just listed.
