Please help. I’m pretty sure I’ve uncovered an issue with the Warcraft III game as a whole, or with customizing maps, even with simple customization, in that under circumstances, where undead blight would spawn, it causes the game to crash.
Explaining the Undead Blight Crash.
As best I can determine, if undead blight would be made to spawn over non-buildable areas, by a Computer controlled AI over undead, that the game will crash. And this will occur in any map, but since surely the maps that come with the game, are so tailored to avoid undead-AI from spawning blight on areas that are not buildable, that they are protected from this BHUG, and until one customizes it, to otherwise, by purpose or accident, to cause a undead AI to spawn blight, that would “hit” an unbuildable area, that this BUG is not known by Blizzard. I may be wrong with this, and hope I am, and that someone has found a solution for this.
How I found this BUG.
This BUG seemed to occur randomly, and on some ocasions, if I managed to save my game, before a crash, I could resume the saved game, and get past the “moment” where the crash would have occurred.
So, I had to think about this from the start of my customization efforts.
One of my first and most important customizations I do to a map, is have triggers, FORCE undead-AI controlled players, build buildings in various areas.
For the longest time, I had no way of knowing this was possibly the cause, but then I made a custom map from ROCK-BOTTOM-SCRATCH, where I had every part of the map, buildable.
For the first time, I never got crashes with a customized map.
But then one day, I added an unbuildable tileset, near where an undead-AI controlled player’s start location was,
After adding that, sure enough, when I played the map for the first time, the game crash ocurred, and on subsequent playing, and saviong/reloading, the crash would be as random as ever.
Eventually, I retried the game over and over, and got to a saved game, where almost ever 2 minutes, from reloadiung that game, the crash would occur.
I then reloaded the saved game, and use the cheat “ISeeDeadPeople”, to watch where the undead had started to build (summon) a building, near the unbuildable are I had setup.
The game crashed, not showing the building getting completed, or the blight spawning, but I then reloaded the game, again and again, and slowly each time, the game would crash, within the same time frame.
Was I sure I found the BUG?
Yes, I am sure it is the cause. This is from hundreds of crashes over this year so far. I get as many as 2 each night, every night, for this year so far.
And when I did not get a crash, it was always when I did not have undead AI in it.
What have I done to fix this.
Well, when the crash occurs, I filled out the “Description” to try and help Blizzard, if they shoudl ever watch it.
And in the last one, when I finally figured it out, I was sure to specify my finding.
But otherwise, the only other thing I can think of doing, is to enable some kind of “Detect if buildable”, or “Issue Build Order to a Buildable Spot only”.
And above all that, here I am to share my findings.
If anyone can help, with a workaround or fix, or even a logging means, to further prove the BUG is the blight, I would much appreciate it.
