I am unable to launch Warcraft 3: Reforged from either the Battle.net app or the standalone launcher. When I click “Play,” the status changes to “Launching” briefly but nothing happens. After about 5 seconds, the “Play” button becomes clickable again. I can launch other games from the Battle.net app without any issues.
Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Tried:
Updated my NVIDIA drivers to the latest version.
Reinstalled Warcraft 3: Reforged twice.
Changed the installation location from the D drive to the C drive.
Ran the “Scan and Repair” tool in the Battle.net app.
Despite these efforts, the issue persists. I would appreciate any guidance or additional troubleshooting steps to resolve this problem.
I just bought the game and have a similar issue where I open the game from battle net app by clicking the Play button and then it loads up a black screen and nothing else. After alt tabbing out of it it shows Play button as able to be pressed again allowing me to open a second black screen of W3 Reforged that does nothing but use computer resources. Just opened a ticket. Did you find a fix?
In other topics we mention having performance issues. One of the fixes to try is adding -graphicsapi Direct3D12 in the start parameters of WC3 via the settings icon next to the playbutton.
Experimenting with this i get the same blacksreen you guys mention when i use -graphicsapi Direct3D9 … So its a long shot a prob. not your fix, but give the following 3 variants a shot, perhaps your lucky.
Appreciate the feedback. Already got a refund. I understand minor bugs but a game breaking bug that doesn’t allow you to even launch the game seems like a no no on their part that should be addressed. I might give what you said a try albeit in the future if I’ve repurchased the game on sale only.
Im willing to give this a go because nothing else seems to work. Where is the start parameters when i click the settings icon next to the play button I dont see them displayed?

I tried write -windowmode windowed, -graphicsapi Direct3D11, -displaymode 2, -force-opengl, -launch
Most of that stuff is made up. It is possible to force directx 9 but it uses 11 by default.
the same type of issue can have many different causes, I was and am “literally” aware you said what your issue was, but that’s no guarantee that any given solution will work.
oh forgot w3 is also in document folder but latests errors are 2023 in this folder

2x Samsung 870 EVO 500 GB - could be problem cause 1died recently and then I got same new one and then I put all my games on new D drive (no problem with other games launching only w3 reforged) but I tried putting it back to C drive or completely uninstalled and reinstalled twice
No commands work, I’m not getting black screen but after I click “play” it changes to “launching” for 3seconds and then its back to “play” and literally nothing happens
