Crash after return one step back in menu
I may have found a clue for those described problems.
As I already wrote, I started creating a new campaign file at the beginning of the week. A raw, new file into which the relevant content is imported step by step: maps, sounds, models, etc.
After each import, I started the game and tried to save. It always worked without any problems. But… there must be a reason for the crashes when trying to save or navigating the menu, right?
So I came across a very interesting cause, which could be a hot lead. I simply renamed the campaign file in Windows to add a simple character (underscore: “_”). And guess what: After that, the crashes started…
I then played a bit of ping-pong: I renamed the campaign file, tested it, the game crashed when saving; renamed it back to what it was when the campaign file was created, tested it again, and the save function worked perfectly. I repeated this several times, always with the same result. As soon as the campaign file is renamed, it crashes.
It should also be mentioned that as soon as the renamed campaign is opened in the game, i.e. when you open the campaign menu with the chapter selection and then try to go back one step in the menu, the crash mentioned in the thread title occurs.
This also no longer happens if you change the campaign back to the original name in Windows that you first set when creating it in the campaign editor.
So it is definitely a hardcoded problem, but a first clue as to where the cause lies.
It is very important to mention that this problem only occurs when the presets (described above and quoted beyond here once again) are used in the campaign editor.
For example (Human campaign):
TAB: GENERAL
Image (Minimap)
Preset: HumanTAB: LOADING SCREEN
Background Screen: Human
Cursor: Human
Ambient Sound: Human
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you do NOT use the presets and instead import and use your own content for these settings, such as your own backgrounds, etc., then you will NOT experience the aforementioned crash problems.
In conclusion, it remains to be said that the presets are probably somehow involved in the problem of the crash cause.
