I still wasn’t the one who brought it up tho
Good points, but if downsizing the files isn’t a viable option. Then, I think an alternative solution to appease people would be to utilized the models in a meaningful way. Like bringing back those cinematic scenes they alluded to for reforged. At least then, they could excuse the resource intensive models.
I think 99% of our community agrees with this bro, most of us want the campaign to be improved like they originally said they were doing with 4+ hours of new cutscenes… only a few whining nerds complained otherwise (and for whatever stupid reason blizzard agreed)
I mean let’s face it, the reality of that happening is zero to none. They just don’t have the money for it, and with people refunding like crazy, they will not have money to add that in the future.
It’s like trying to make an argument that Heroes of the Storm needs a new cinematic, or Esports tournament, because the fans really really want it. Well it’s not gonna happen when the game already had its dev team gutted and is basically set to maintenance mode because the fans weren’t supporting the game in the first place.
And even the CMs are blatantly communicating that they are sticking to the current setup. Instead of silence they actually spoke up, so it needs to be acknowledged as their intended direction.
So if we don’t want 30gb of models that aren’t being used, the way I see it is to simply not have it at all. Because like you point out, it’s literally a waste of space (aside from custom maps that choose to use them cinematically).
That’s great, but I think it would have benefitted the game to utilized simpler models and still left those cinematics out. Which is kind of what I was arguing in the thread topic.
and I do not agree with you at all… wait 3-4 years and get a new PC and you will be glad they didn’t dull it down
the problem here is NOT the 30gb… its the fact they didn’t design the units from a topdown/isometric perspective
I ALREADY SAID THIS BUT YOU IGNORED IT
I still have faith in Blizzard. They made surprisingly drastic changes to D3 due to fan outrage. Here’s hoping they listen again.
Er, actually the opposite.
They cancelled Diablo 3’s second expansion and gut the dev team shortly after the RMAH was removed. Loot 2.0 and Reaper of Souls was not enough to bolster the confidence of the execs to carry through the 10-year plan that they set out for Diablo 3. It got as far as Reaper of Souls because they already had the budget in place for it, and despite how people felt about Diablo 3, it SOLD very well.
Reforged is in the opposite position, where not only did it review badly, but it’s selling badly too.
I mean it’s good to have faith in Blizzard, but realistically speaking, I see them fixing the major bugs in the game so that it’s playable, but any of the features promised beyond that would be a miracle if anything.
D3’s saving grace was Mike Morhaime’s intervention. He’s the one that allowed the scrapped 2nd expansion to have its content used extend Reaper of Souls and bring about the Necromancer DLC. Mike’s gone, and there’s no one there to vet for WC3 really. Even Frank Pearce, one of the few remaining founders of Blizzard and someone who worked on WC3, left the company last year.
I’m not talking about me and my PC… I don’t think the world revolves around me. This topic is discussing how Blizzard could have put out a more successful product and how they could have avoided some fan backlash.
Frankly, I wasn’t really ignoring your isometric view point. I didn’t have anything to say, because I honestly kind of agree with it.
exactly, so stop focusing on the 30GB and discuss the actual problem of units being designed from a ground level (facing them) instead of from topdown view like they should have been… that’s why some units are too big, some units blend in, and some units are hard to click cuz there silhouette is messed up
I feel like, if you take a screenshot of classic, and a screenshot of Reforged, with the same types of units on the screen, and apply a blur to both of them, that’s what they should be matching up.
It’s what people are going to see at a quick glance, in a 10th of a second. Those silhouettes and color patterns need to be AT LEAST close enough to where if you put classic and reforged models side by side, throw a strong blur filter on both images, they should come out looking the same.
That should have been priority #1, but wasn’t… at least for some units.
SC2 HD models were really in line with that. Hell, you could probably do that for most of the HOTS units and it would line up pretty well.
Already played like 100games on Reforged and 80 of these games where with the old graphics, because the new one is horrible for RTS and makes my sore. I mean it really makes my eyes sore, probably because of the color saturation and contrast.
They should have used the HOTS models for Reforged, because of their minimalistic and comic design that fits the Warcraft universe.
Yeah but many people ordered the reforged because of the new cinematics and maps wich got scrapped. And people who stuck to the old version either because they dont have good pc’s or because they liked it more are still stuck with all the data they do not need or want
People replay games once in a while, sometimes once a year if lucky but in no way in shape or form is any game capable of multiple story playthroughs one after the other, not unless there are unlocks that follow with beating the game in a certain time frame. (Resident evil 2 remake as an example)
I can easily point out my issue, even though I refunded and will never give Blizzard another dime.
My PC back in 2002 wasn’t great, but it ran Warcraft 3 perfectly. I have upgraded my computer around 6 times since 2002. My PC is not the best, but after 18 years of upgrades it runs Warcraft 3 Reforged, using classic graphics, worse than my old PC in 2002 ran Warcraft 3. Something is wrong there.
No here’s why most people play on worse off graphics, depending on the game such as pubg, lowered graphics means less foliage and zero at distance which is akin to cheating in it’s own right.
For rts games it’s to improve FPS not like it matters, modern up to date hardware (i7 7700k, AMD ryzen, gtx 10 series or rtx 20 series if ray tracing matters to you) can run most if not all all games flawlessly at 1080p 60+ on high or better.
30 gigs of space is nothing, if you seriously care for space uninstall games you no longer play, problem solved.
You can get a 1tb hard drive for $45 to $50, cheaper than a power supply.
I wonder if I should read this before those posts about warcraft in unreal engine and how some dude who just put shadows on old warcraft should be instantly hired by blizz or after them …
