Statement on Warcraft III: Reforged Patch 2.0.4

Patch 2.0.4 is a strong and meaningful step forward for Warcraft III: Reforged, especially in how it empowers casters and emphasizes spell-based decision-making. Overall, this patch clearly signals a direction: Warcraft is becoming a Pro Sorcerers game again—and that’s exciting for both competitive depth and spectator value.

I strongly support the reduced Master Training times for Casters across all races. Faster access to advanced caster abilities encourages more dynamic mid-game play and rewards players with strong spell control and positioning. That said, some abilities may scale a bit stronger than expected—Inner Fire and Cyclone in particular stand out as spells to keep an eye on as the meta develops. Might would have been also an idea to enable quicker Adapt Training for Dispell abilities in order to have a counter against Magic Power attacks. Howevever i think it does make sense that necromancers & Bears didn’t benefit from the quicker Master Spell abilities, as Bears are more seen as Tier 2 Heavy Beater Melee Unit & Necromancer with mass Skeletons together with a speed up unholy frenzy and cripple might come in too broken overall.

The inclusion and buffing of Tavern Heroes is also a welcome change. It’s great to see them finding a more consistent place in competitive play. However, the Pit Lord being the default first pick in many matchups risks becoming repetitive. While this can be fun in the short term—especially for Undead and Night Elf—the hero’s limited mobility and overwhelming presence may ultimately hurt pro-level gameplay diversity and long-term strategic depth. Would have loved to see more encouragement for the Alchemist as well, as he does seem to be interesting to play out with his abilities.

For Orcs, the general direction toward more healing options is positive and much needed. I do think, however, that a small additional buff to Healing Wave on the Shadow Hunter could have rounded this out nicely and reinforced Orc’s identity around sustain-based engagements.

Beyond balance, the patch delivers important quality-of-life improvements—matchmaking flexibility, World Editor stability, and performance optimizations all contribute to a healthier ecosystem for both players and creators.

In summary: Patch 2.0.4 is a very strong update. It promotes casters, rewards mechanical skill, and opens the door to richer strategies and more engaging pro content. With some careful monitoring of standout abilities and Tavern Hero dominance, this patch has the potential to shape one of the most exciting competitive eras Warcraft III has seen in years.

There were good updates in here, but there are also some resurfacing issues.

It does make me wonder if some of these issues are actually just caused by low server capacity, because when an update / season starts, there is significantly increased player activity.

Very good patch overall, I like it.
UD got the Ghoul damage back, and Orc feels faster.

The only thing I dislike is the Dark Ranger changes… it feels like 2026 is the Dark Ranger’s year

The entire community has been waiting your official statement on this thank you.

I already shared my thoughts earlier: overall a solid patch with many good fixes, though I hoped for more Warden buffs.
Plus I’m not convinced by the Dark Ranger hype.
Happy to discuss those points further or others but related to unit balance.

I agree that you should keep an eye on these cause they are almost meta, but why not mention possession? That spell was already meta before the patch (more than the other 2). I would argue that now is a bit too strong. Especially since it had the unintended buff to be able to target web/snared air units. I am guessing you are an ORC player (and do not face possesion that often) or an UD xD

I would agree for lvl 1 healing wave. That you HAVE TO lvl your SH to 3 before fighting an UD never seemed right to me, since UD can fight as soon as they have lich lvl 1. Before wand of negation was ok, cause hex on lvl 1 was strong vs UD, but not anymore. Another alternative is to make wand of negation to just damage summons, but not dispel. But I am not sure about that one.

If only they put as much effort in the game’s development as they do in deleting forum posts

These forums are public facing and can be viewed without an account. So they kinda have to watch them carefully.

Perhaps if you put more effort into ensuring posts followed the rules, they wouldn’t get deleted.

After seeing the Diablo 2: Reign of the Warlock it makes me wish they would do something similar with WarCraft 3. We don’t need WarCraft 4! Just show us some love like we know you can.

Dude, it’s great, and yet there’s still a shocking number of people who feel the need to complain about a good thing. lol

The D2 DLC announcement is like, one of the best things Blizzard has announced in a very long time.

I played some games with the Dark Ranger, and I still can’t quite get into it. I’m not saying that is still weak, just that it’s not my style. Infact all UD faction is not my syle.
So, I do not understand the 2026 hype around the Dark Ranger!?! Maybe some extra campaigns will come soon, and the main hero will be Sylvanas?

Wait finally? That’s something I always wanted to see! It’s not in the patch notes?

Wtf there’s a new class in Diablo wtf? Huge!

If blizzard wants to refresh the game, my old idea still stands - make ultimates learnabke at lvl 5 (creeping to lvl 4), so that they can be seen in 1v1. Or… Introduce a new tavern hero.

Yes, Diablo II got a new add-on after like 25 years. New class, new items and some new features including a new high difficulty activity.
