EDIT: FIXED after PC restart,
still in versus can’t change race or look at my profile
Yesterday I played just fine,
today 25.2.2026 I can’t even open wc3 main menu because on run my pc starts making weird noises(GPU disconnects and reconnects), menu 99% frozen and switching to black screen.
Goes back to normal after alt+f4 ing the game, when opening game in small windowed mode works slightly better only 95% frozen menu still super laggy can barely load to Versus tab without pc wanting to blow up and dying my gpu.
The “Immediate Fix” (Bypass the Driver/Game Conflict)
Since Warcraft III is struggling to render the “Reforged” engine correctly with your current drivers, you can try forcing it into a more stable legacy mode.
Open the Battle.net launcher.
Click the gear icon next to the “Play” button for Warcraft III.
Select Game Settings.
Check the box for Additional command line arguments.
Enter the following string exactly: -graphicsapi Direct3D11 -nativefullscr(Adding these forces the game to use a more stable API and can often prevent the “black screen/hang” loop.)
Click Done and try launching the game.
2. The Driver “Rollback” (The Likely Root Cause)
If the above doesn’t fix it, your current driver (591.86) is the prime suspect. It is currently infamous for causing the exact “GPU disconnect/reconnect” loop you are describing.
Download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller): This is the industry-standard tool for cleaning up bad driver installations.
Get a stable driver: Download the previous stable NVIDIA driver (something from before the 591.xx series if possible, or a known stable branch like 576.88).
The Procedure:
Disconnect from the internet (to stop Windows from auto-installing its own version).
Boot into Safe Mode.
Run DDU to completely wipe the current 591.86 driver.
Restart normally.
Install the stable driver you downloaded.
3. In-Game Settings to Limit Load
Even if the driver is fixed, Reforged is notoriously unoptimized. To prevent the GPU from “wanting to blow up,” try these settings once you get in:
Switch to Classic Graphics: If you can get to the menu, toggle the graphics mode to “Classic” immediately.
Cap your FPS: The main menu often tries to run at an uncapped framerate, which causes GPU usage to spike to 100% and triggers the “disappearing GPU” crash. Use the NVIDIA Control Panel to limit Warcraft III FPS to 60 or 144 (whatever your monitor is).
Disable V-Sync: In some cases, having V-Sync enabled in both the game and the NVIDIA Control Panel causes conflict freezes. Try turning it off in-game.
A Note on Hardware
Please do not panic about your PSU or GPU health. If your PC runs other games (especially modern, demanding titles) without this “disconnecting” sound, your hardware is fine. This is a classic “driver crash vs. game engine” mismatch.
