Imagine hearing that Reforged is now “Reforged 2.0”, first thing I do is entering controls settings and seeing this:
Hello, keymap file located by this path, to create custom layout please edit this file
What the **** is this? Is this a remaster of a remaster of AAA game? You still didn’t make a keybinding settings menu? Even garbage F tier games has their own key settings. You had few years to add keybinding menu, but you decided just leave it as it is? Hell no this is very bad joke, it’s a hilariously awful. I am working in gamedev industry and my producer would knock all sh*t out of me if instead of making keybinding menu in production build I decide to send user manually editing a config file.
Also UI in Reforged mode SUСКS. Old-style UI that takes 1/3 of entire screen space, wtf is this? This UI fits good into old Warcraft III, I had no complaints about that.
But if you are making modernized and remastered version of a game please put some effort to make modern UI. You can put minimap somewhere in screen corner, not somewhere in random place on a screen, you can arrange spell icons more compactly and make simple frame for unit information in opposite side of a screen with mana and health bars that are located above spell icons (from minimap to unit frame). And this UI will take much less space, to give a player more view and a feeling that you at least was trying to put some effort in it. Current UI not only feels off for Reforged mode, it utilizes screen space very badly, too much unused space on entire frame and huge unused gaps on screen corners, so UI frame has to be very tall. You can compare WCIII with modern moba games (they all have minimaps, unit squads, abilities and main hero frame). None of this games has that kind of issues.
And you actually had very decent UI in first game demonstration on a Blizzcon 2018 back then, but it was never seen after.
Also current main menu is so unresponsive I can feel how it works on some embedded HTML browser engine that randomly freezes for no reason on my 7800X3D. I am surprised you still didn’t get rid of chromium from game interface. This is such an embarrassment to make ingame menu on a browser, I haven’t seen any other standalone game that is using whole browser for freakin menu (besides RPG Maker games).
For example Valve’s DOTA2/CS2 are also using some kind of HTML (it’s more like XML) and JS. But Source 2 never using poor integration of embedded chromium, it has own fast and responsive UI engine.
It looks like ingame UI really runs on some kind of own UI engine, but main menu is definitely not.
And I am not even talking about that all cutscenes are same scripted sequences from 2002 without any changes and closer camera angles, I see you don’t have time for that, but you could at least add controls settings menu, redesign UI and make some refactoring for it, it really struggles to run on lowend devices. Warcraft III was one of the best online games that is more than playable on poor performance devices, but even in classic graphics mode it has much worse performance.
