I know it’s a bit premature, and the developers said they’d only focus on Warcraft III as is, but I do look at Reforged as an opportunity to introduce more content. Now content progressing the story (Be it WoW based or otherwise) should be saved for a Warcraft IV, but some ideas for Reforged could be:
-
’Reforge’ of Orcs & Humans, Tides of Darkness, and Beyond the Dark Portal. This could be a massive expansion, or possibly even two or three, which create complete revisioning of the original games. While I still find the old games fun, I’ll admit they are dated, and I’d seriously doubt a modern audience could be interested. Even the campaign styles are old fashioned (Destroy ALL enemies, repeat).
Personally I’ve always thought of how they could go about this, fleshing out factions like the Stormreaver, Laughing Skull and Shadowmoon Clans. BDP could also feature the Draenei and Ogres as minor campaign factions with more units and structures. Stromgarde, Gilneas, Kul’Tiras, and other human kingdoms could get some unique unit variations LotV style. It might be a lot, but I would love to see the First and Second Wars handled properly. It might be too ambitious for a simple expansion, but I think people would definitely love it if they did it (well, that is).
-
Naga Expansion. This one’s been floating around some threads, but I think if people are really demanding a 5th race, the Naga would be the way to go. The expansion could introduce a new campaign as well as new maps and expanded naval combat. This could even merge with the Tides of Darkness mechanics too, if both are created.
-
Simple DLC content similar to starcraft. Small cosmetic content, doesn’t change gameplay, perhaps a feature which blocks it for tournements or what not for those who would argue against it. It isn’t pay to win or microtransactions. It would be things like blood elf army skins, custom hero designs, or what not. I think it’s harmless, some people want them, and the map makers would love to fiddle with the models.
Of course, if done, Lore Friendly. No candy-cane dwarves or halloween undead. Keep it immersive.
These are just my thoughts. I don’t want to go too crazy with expansions and DLC, but if they were to pursue that route, this would be the route to go. I’m curious what people think.

Personally, for WC1, I’d like it if they focused on the events of The Last Guardian novel, but add a few extra missions to cover more of the core stories of the war. We wouldn’t need a repeat of every mission from the original game, but several missions to make smaller stories that tell the core points of the first war. Like mini-campaigns. Perhaps something like this:
- Following Khadgar as he meets Medivh, gets ambushed in the swarm and visits Stormwind to hunt a demon. All to give an introduction to the setting and Orcs.
- Control the Orcs as they establish a presence in the Swamps, potentially including hunting down Griselda and the Ogres. Possibly from Garona’s view, or Doomhammers.
- Rescuing Lothar from the mines and defend Grand Hamlet.
- Orc missions as the war continues and the Horde get nearer to Stormwind, but start highlighting the divisions between the different leaders.
- Play as Khadgar as he discovers Medivh’s betrayal, flees to Stormwind with Garona and then hunts down Medivh with Lothar & Co.
- Show the Fall of Stormwind including the assassination King Llane and death of Blackhand.
Obviously that isn’t the best planned set of missions, I haven’t played WC1 for years, read the book in years or read the lore of the first war for a long time. But its an idea for how to cover all the core story points of the war without needing two long campaigns to do it, just one long one.
how about they catch the warcraft rts up with current wow? id love a wc4 that covered cata thru legion/bfa

A expansion dlc mission bundle for… THE WAR OF THE ANCIENTS
I have been thinking about it! Why not? Why not tell the story of current World Of Warcraft without the interference of the ‘’ Multiplayer MMORPG ‘’ genre? It would be much better!

I actually did think of this one too, but forgot about it in the original post. War of the Ancients could introduce new maps and units, and while I think the Legion would and should be too powerful for standard multiplayer, they could be more fleshed out as a complete custom faction for campaigns and the editor.
Yes, if they were to cover the story of WoW, I’d prefer it to be a Warcraft IV, not an expansion to Reforged.
Lots of mini expansions IMHO. Say $10 each.
- Naga, fleshed out into a balanced playable race (but not for ladder) on par with the other 4 (4 heroes etc, although maybe the only race without a 3-tier main building). Remove witch from tavern when playing naga-melee. 1 new tavern hero. 5-map Naga-race mini campaign. One short cinematic.
- Naval. 4-5 race specific naval units and 3-4 race-specific structures. Some race-naval-specific mechanics. Some naval creeps. Lots of naval melee maps for all melee modes. Short naval campaign (alliance vs horde, 3 maps each).
- Copied WC1&2 campaigns plus copied WC1&2 playable races (non-ladder) using WC3 assets where possible. Two cinematics.
- 5 x 3-map side stories (featuring Naaru, Burning Legion, Dragons). 2 extra race-distinctive melee-available units per race. Lots more creeps.
I’d love to see the novels and some other major events made into WC3 Reforged campaigns. Something like the Lord of the Clans campaign: that would awesome to see done a bit more professionally, like with proper cinematic(s), voice over and models / skins.
Also War of the Three Hammers, Rise of the Horde and Troll Wars would to cool to see, to name a few.

I think that’d be great @Butcher, use Wc3 as a means of telling the important wars of the past, even those before the Horde showed up. There is a vast scope for it.
After some thought, and looking at some other forums, I think that Warcraft I and II might be a bit too ambitious for a full on expansion. While it could be done, I think I would want to see the stories of the originals told in a complete game by itself rather than an expansion for Reforged. I’m talking about a full on remake rather than a remaster of WC3 dlc.
But for Reforged, yeah it should be a base for some other side stories around the same period. Naga, Demons, Draenei campagins sound fun. And new units and maybe the Naga as a fifth race could be a neat welcome that separates reforged from simply being a remaster.

Naga as 5th race or riot!
Although a map pack that revises Warcraft 1 and 2 would be interesting Blizzard already stated that a faithful return to those two games is out of the cards simply because they don’t hold up well. They’re simply too arcane.
That’s what I was saying, not remastering the games, but making a complete game set in the era. Essentially being a separate game entirely with whatever mechanics they want. A Warcraft 4, if you will, but it wouldn’t progress the plot as much as expand on the classical eras of warcraft 1 and 2.
Do you know what remastering/reforging a game is? It’s not adding new things like races.
People like you deliberately talking about things 100% unrelated to game should be barred from the forums as you offer 0 to the game.
Reforged is next serias Warcraft story but this story now uses only graphic corrections.
Warcraft and Warcraft 2 its original base for this story and you want destroy this a made. Think for this.
Guess you didnt understand what expansion ideas means after you stopped at ‘reforged’
I wrote expansion ideas, I agree that none of this should be part Reforged on release. My other point was to the ideas of Warcraft 1 and 2 dlc where I no longer wanted those games as mere expansion content, but as a separate adaptation entirely.
I know it’s premature, but this stuff was buzzing through my head on what Reforged could be after release and where Blizzard could go with Warcraft from there. There wouldn’t be another forum to really write this kind of stuff on.
The only new stuff is gonna be some potential campaigns and new maps. I’m totally fine with that.
