Mixing ASIA players with EU players = automatic kick

Hello Blizzard

Can you stop mixing ASIA players with EU players because :

  • bad ping between 300-400 so it’s unplayable
  • sometimes the ping skyrocket to 2/4 seconds
  • result you are desynchronized with the server
  • result Blizzard auto kick you from the game
  • result you have a nice loose

If you’re talking versus, Bliz intentionally made the matchmaking global. So your idea isn’t going have much of an effect.

It was done in the interest of making it possible for people to play (especially from the asia region which doesn’t have a lot of players) instead of making it impossible.

Just remember half the time it’s unplayable for you, but the other half of the time it’s unplayable for them. Depends on where the game gets hosted.

they are 1.400.000 peoples in China they have 0 problem finding games its FAKE NEWS ! Blizzard has just to put servers for only chineses peoples and other servers for the rest of Asia. If they dont want diplomatic issues with China just let the chineses peoples play together and separate them from the rest of Asia [japan / india / south korea…]

I thought this was about mixing Asia and EU?

The Asia gateway definitely does not have 1.4 million people playing on it. FAKE NEWS!

But it’s really beside the point, because that’s not what this is about.
Aside from that I was under the impression that China had their own server anyway. The “Asia” gateway URL is KR.actual.battle.net with the KR being Korea. Games hosted on the Asia gateway are listed as “KR” in the Custom Games list.

Speaking of the custom game list, all you really have to do is look at the number of games listed in the KR region to see how there’s comparatively fewer players playing from that gateway.

I am from Europe and the game is for me not playable in Multiplayer mode. I have constantly pings > 500, sometimes even 2 seconds.

Sorry, but this is the worst user experience I have ever had in a multiplayer game. How can a company like Blizzard allow this to happen?

Why am I not able to choose the region where I want to play? Why am I forced to constantly being connected with people from Asia, experiencing incredibly high pings and not able to play properly?

If this is not just hyperbole, you have a serious problem that most likely has nothing to do with the game itself. Even with Asia players, I don’t get 500 or 2 second pings. My pings to the asia gateway and games hosted from it are around 250-300, and I’m further away from them than you are.

I can only guess as to the possible reasons, you might have some other software on your PC interfering, you might just have a bad route to the server which could be fixed with a VPN, potentially. Or there might be other circumstances beyond your control.

Though there is a running theme in these complaints coming from EU users. There could be a problem with the EU gateway itself.

All I can tell you is I’m in the eastern US and the worst pings I’ve ever seen in the game at any time are in the low 300s when it’s a game hosted from Asia. EU games are in the mid 100s , and US games are around 90 (west coast) and games hosted on the chicago server are maybe 50-60. Pretty porportional to distance.

So don’t get mad at me, but if you’re getting worse pings when you’re closer to Asia players than I am, that indicates a problem that doesn’t likely have much to do with an Asia player being in the game.

I experience this regularly in vs games. I have to quit so many times cause high ping makes playing and micro impossible. Ive been desynced every week at least 1 time. Would be nice if this could be addressed.

Guys, sorry to say this, but the Chinese server is locked to Asia only. You need a VPN to access Asia. Asia no longer plays with Eu in multiplayer. I haven’t played with Chinese players, except for a few who use EU servers, and there aren’t many of them.

I get that error sometimes when setting up LAN games, which doesn’t have a VPN involved. I suspect that the the error itself is bugged and isn’t necessarily relevant to the situation.

The reason versus was made global was because of the low population pools in each region. I’m skeptical that Asia and EU were separated. It would cut the pool way down.

I don’t do it
Okey

The “Asia” gateway is in Korea and really serves the SEA region (Southeast Asia)

You don 't need any seluthing to know this. The Asia gateway address is kr.actual.battle.net (kr = Korea) as I noted earlier. China generally gets seperate servers for everything and non-China clients won’t connect to them.

So that means what I mentioned is true?

Sorry Blizzard,

but this is really ridiculous. I remember playing a lot of Warcraft 3 in 2005 and rarely experienced any network issues, even with my slow DSL connection back then.

Now, after 20 years, having a super modern glas fiber connection in Germany, almost multiplayer every game is very laggy, destroying any kind of gaming experiencing. So even after the initial launch desaster - after 6 years - this game is broken and nostalgic people get just milked.

Your technical managers and engineers really screwed up here badly.

Coming back to the VPN topic:

Which VPN do you recommend? To which region should I connect?

I use Mudfish, becuase its very cheap so it’s great for investigating these kinds of problems. They have a lot of server locations too so it’s good for this. $1 of bandwidth lasts a very long time when playing games like this, so it’s about as free as it can get while not technically being free.

As I said before, it’s very likely that Blizzard itself has nothing to do with this. So suggesting their enginners are bad / screwed up is very likely wrong and doesn’t have basis. When a datacenter has problems or there’s some issue with a backbone internet ISP, the most Blizzard can do is call them up and say “hey your routers/servers/something are screwing up and it’s harming our services” and hope they fix the problems that are not within Blizzard’s control.

It’s not even just this game. I play Final Fantasy XIV and it’s been experiencing DDOS attacks on its NA datacenters almost constantly in the last few weeks. There’s only so much Square Enix can do because it does not control the hardware that is being attacked.

Sure it has basis. When in my engineering company, we make decisions for bad suppliers, it is our fault in case of defective end-products. It is our responsibility to subcontract then to other suppliers.

Means in case of Blizzard: it is their responsibility to choose the right infrastructure providers.

Pushing the responsibility for low quality to supplier firms is kinda Boeing style. Did that help? Nope. The end-product is what the customers face and they will judge the OEM by it.

Say a plane crashes and you lose a family member, after which the aircraft OEM tells you:
”Look, the plane crashed due to defective hydraulic actuators. But we do not develop them. They are provided by a supplier. So it’s their fault”

Would you really accept such an answer?

Well yes, I don’t disagree, but that doesn’t help in the moment now, does it? It’s also very likely there would be significant downtime for all of battle.net if they actually were forced to move datacenters.

It wouldn’t be what you want to hear, but in your scenario, it would only be the airline’s fault if they knew there was a problem and made no effort to correct or avoid it- i.e. they could take the aircraft out of service until the manufacturer can provide the necessary repair/replacement. But that would only apply if was proven they knew about it and took no action.

In this scenario, it would only be Blizzard’s fault if they knew about this beforehand and did not attempt to contact the ISP which controls the relevant network hardware / the datacenter they contracted with to get them. Of course, that excuse doesn’t work forever and even if the problem isn’t directly within Blizzard’s control, if the problem persists the best course of action is for Blizzard to contract with a more reliable provider.

(And this actually did happen with Final Fantasy XIV- After the first few years, SE ended up relocating it’s NA datacenter from its initial provider located in Quebec to a provider in California because the original provider wasn’t reliable enough- which sucked for me as an east coast player but it was true that there were more frequent network issues at the old location)
