Howdy, was not aware the legacy WC3 cd keys were disabled. Couple of my cousins and I decided to grab our old CDs and play some WC3 the other day and saw this Nov 21 deadline. I have Reforged edition, but they never added the legacy CD keys to their accounts. Considering we’ve bought pretty much every Blizzard game since the 90s, can something be done or are they out of luck? Not asking for free Reforged editions, but for them to be able to use their old CD keys and play legacy Wc3 with me.
You can install an old version game and play offline. But to play online you will need a Reforged license. You can no longer play the live version of the game with a classic key unless you had it on your account before they were shut off. So no, they are out of luck. Old versions of the game cannot go online.
Just wait for a sale and buy it then, it’s pretty reasonable when there’s a sale. If you really want to play with them, i’d gift them copies.
Unfortunately they had to do this because keygens are a thing. I’m surprised they let it go as long as they did, as it also meant that the rare bans Blizzard issued were basically meaningless as you could just use another generated key on a new account

I don’t really care what they “claim” the reasons were, we paid for the game why the hell would we buy it again? From what I can tell they announced the cut off only 1 month before, whos to say they wont do it again? Also, Reforged runs like crap, which is why everyone called it WC3: Refund. This company has fallen far.

You’ve had like a decade since the new battle.net to add your key, and 5 years since reforged came out. You’ve had plenty of time. They gave us months of warning before it happned as well. They have every right to do or not do what they want to do, and while they did, they gave you every opportunity to do it. It’s really nobody’s fault but yours / your friends’.
They were being generous when they didn’t make you pay for it from the beginning just because you bought something 15 years prior.. It’s crazy to think we were straight up entitled to it no matter what.
Aside from that, what are you getting mad at me for? I didn’t do anything but provide the truth of the matter that you explicitly asked for. And whether I agree with you or not, it doesn’t matter because they did what they did and neither of us can change that.
The game is $15 or less on a sale. there are tons of worse games that cost more than that. It’s not the end of the world.
Now, you can still play legacy versions in LAN as far as I’m aware- so if you can get your actual buddies together for a LAN party, you could still do that.

Reforged isn’t bad anymore they’ve added many quality-of-life changes. Is it what we hoped for? No, but they are constantly fixing it. If they had released this version as the first Reforged version, people wouldn’t have been as mad. Also, you can still play your old Warcraft using your CD they didn’t disable that, consider this like when EA shuts down an old FIFA server and you can no longer play online, similar situation here.
Just buy the game when it’s on sale for 15 dollars and enjoy again in the best RTS game ever made.
