Its the terrain?

Personally I have to say culling terrain was the same as it is right now. Or even better…

Which makes me ask where that “better” terrain is?

Because there was a lot of critism of it last year.

Hopefully there is an actual change and leaks were wrong

What? The 2018 demo looked incredibly bad in the terrain department, whereas the new one is so good, the first time I saw Lordaeron Summer, I had to look closely to understand that it’s new.

And the icy snow is absolutely beautiful.

hmm, why do you and so many others keep saying that? You are obviously wrong. Look at the shadow rendering, the water, its obviously not the old warcraft engine.

If it was a different engine, classic warcraft 3 and reforged couldn’t be compatible and blizzard already stated that both versions will be compatible and players of both versions will play together.

  1. The current Reforged client literally runs old custom maps.
  2. The current Reforged client literally has the same pathing.

I will repeat it again. The leaked Reforged Beta is Warcraft III version 1.32. There will be no separate legacy client, it will just be the Reforged client with Reforged content behind a licence wall. This structure makes the most sense from a development perspective as it means only 1 branch of the game has to be developed and maintained for everyone.

The current leaked Reforged beta has no Reforged maps as far as I am aware. Since it is a beta, Blizzard likely saw no need to bundle the client with them since players are not meant to play them anyway once the beta goes live. The beta is for Ladder play and possibly custom map compatibility only, it is not intended to test the Reforged campaign or create new custom maps.

wow ok then its obviously not the engine that has not yet been updated with the new rendering features

yeah, thats exactly what the client has to do, what are you even trying to say?

or they strapped them on starcraft 2 editor, which is stronger

Impossible (judging by the footage).

Well I am glad there seems to be a consensus that the terrain graphics in those leaked videos are both crap and likely ‘fake’.

It would be devastating if that was the actual terrain, so thanks for putting my mind at ease guys.

Fingers crossed we get to see the real terrain graphics at Blizzcon.

I don’t get how people are defending this.

Yes models are great and all. But you absolutely can’t say that for the terrain.

We were all expecting more dynamic effects. Like better wind, rain, snow, thunder etc…

On top of having actual grass and 3D stuff instead of the same 2D flatness from last year BlizzCon

Just watched a stream of the actual beta and the terrain is terrible. The contrast between the new models and crappy terrain does make the game feel like a mod and that just sucks.

Good work Blizzard you have only done half the job on the graphics front - typical

The beta is using standard melee maps. I suggest waiting for the Reforged campaign which uses Reforged target maps.

Is it me, or was the hacked terrain better? I was defending precisely the hacked terrain - it had so much detail coupled with brightness. The new one is at least bright, but the detail is gone. Or am I wrong and it’s the same? Haven’t seen Lordaeron Summer yet.

We can only judge what is in front of us and what I am seeing is pretty poor. Some people are saying the graphics and resolution settings are bugged, others that this isn’t the final tile-set package etc.

Maybe that is all true…but it does not change the fact the Beta version has crap terrain right irrespective of the excuses.

In what respect? The blades of grass are plentiful, the colours bountiful, the flowers scattered, the snow icy.

Right now if we look at the footage and streams the terrain just looks odd

When you look at the game the terrain and the models don’t fit togeather IMO. It’s like looking at two different components that were built to a different standard and lumped together.

To me anyway, they don’t visually flow as one…I don’t know how else to phrase TBH.

I am having this crazy idea of introducing sime kind of “glow” and it would match the player color actually to every unit, but not below like the heroes just around the unit or something.

Something needs to be done for the units to “stick out” more, oh yeah and heroes could be bigger too.

But anyway, I am glad to see so many people (not only in this topic) to have realised the problem.

I am seriously optimistic about Blizzard fixing this in the near future, and if my posts have gone a bit darker and more sceptical in near past, please dont get me wrong, I only want what is good for the game, nothing less
