Hello. I’m having a problem that has not been solved in over a year maybe even two. It’s entering WC3 and trying to get past the black loading screen before the gates with the lions head w/ the blue eyes. Just before the gates, it flickers, and it takes me right back to my home screen. I hit “play” on Battle.net again and the same problem happens, over and over!
The only time I get gaming time for WC3 is after some major update and then it magically returns to normal. After a while it ends up going back to the same bug merry-go-round.
Only suggestion I have is try going to your Documents folder, finding the Warcraft III folder inside it, right click > Properties, and clear the box next to “Read Only.” if the game is closing after the lions gate and not simply being stuck there like has happened to some people, it could be because the game can’t properly read/write to the configuration files.
I don’t know why this happens but it happens a lot and causes all sorts of issues. there’s no reason anything in one’s document’s folder needs to be read only.
Other than that, you can try clicking the cog next to the Play button and clicking Scan and Repair, based on your statement that the game works after an update for a period of time.
I was having a problem similar to this. In my case, the problem was that Microsoft OneDrive was making my folders under Documents a “cloud type”.
You can check it under “C:\Users\your user\OneDrive\Documents”. Usually its going to show a column named “status”.
If it shows you a little cloud icon as the status of the Warcraft folder, than you can right-click on the Wacraft folder and select the option that says “Always keep on this device”. This way all of your files are going to be downloaded (it may take a while), and will prevent OneDrive from uploading your files to the cloud and ereasing them from your PC in the future. Only launch the game after you download everything (the icon is going to change to a green check symbol).
If this is your situation, W3 gives you a black screen and freezes because its waiting for all of the files to be downloaded from OneDrive. Every time you close the game, OneDrive uploads all the files and than deletes from the local storage. And everytime you launch the game, everything needs to be downloaded again.
Hope this helps.
(sorry for my english, its not my native language)
Yeah, it’s best if your user documents folder is NOT a OneDrive folder. It’s much better to have a seperate folder for things you want to share to the cloud.
I’d completely forgotten about OneDrive and the issues it’s known to cause.
