I would like to understand how the mmr works.
I’ve played about 50 games this season.
When I play I win against opponents who have a mmr close to my mmr, I earn 11-28 points.
I recently lost to an opponent who was almost 300 mmr more than mine and lost 64 points.
Another strange thing happened to me a few days ago, I played against a player who had 300 mmr more than me, I lose the game and I lose 64 points, then I find him immediately on the ladder and he beats me again only this time I lose only 31 points.
Personally there doesn’t seem to be a logical link between points gained and lost compared to the opponents’ mmr.
Can anyone help me understand?
the MMR does not work in any way or shape. Its basically random. Blizzard seems to add things to reforged but half asses everything. Instead of perfecting 1 thing they just keep adding stuff that is not finished. My favorite thing is winning a game in 4s and then getting a loss for it
First:
You generally lose/gain more MMR in the first handful of games you play in a particualr mode/race.
Second:
In theory, the lower the MMR on your team, the more you can gain for winning and the less you can lose for losing.
This only seems to work reliably in 1v1 though. in team games it’s just a mess and often doesn’t seem to make sense.
The way I understand it is that it first takes all the individual MMR scores from each teammate, then calculates the average and uses that for the matchmaking system. After the match is done, it then uses the opposing team’s average against your own individual MMR score and calculates any gains/losses based on that.

Here’s a visual description, if it’s easier to understand.
For example I play 1v1 and also in this mode which should be more accurate, it doesn’t work well. I think mmr at least in 1v1 should work like chess elo rating.
MMR gained and lost works decently for me in 1v1.
Obviously you’ll gain very little if you win vs people with much lower MMR.
In teams it does seem to work based on team average, but the teams themselves are often imbalanced for whatever reason.
I think MMR is totally broken also in 1v1, or at least it doesn’t work for me.
I had 5400 mmr points and the system match me against 6000 mmr opponent, I lose the game and i lose 64 points, I repeat 64 points!!!
When I win against opponents who have a similar mmr to mine, I get around 20-30 points.
This thing is totally meaningless, objectively this system takes away the desire to play, I have to win against two opponents of my same level to recover the points lost against a clearly favored opponent.
Blizzard should not only fix this system better but at least explain how it works.
