Feedback on User Conduct + 2x Forums

Hello,

I have had several negative experiences on the forum recently, and I would like to provide some constructive feedback.

In some discussions, people disagreed with my ideas, which is completely fine. Healthy disagreement is part of any forum. However, instead of continuing to discuss the topic with reasoning, some replies became personal. Myself and others were accused of being a “LIAR” and of using Generative AI, while the original topic was no longer being discussed. As more users joined in, the discussion shifted away from the ideas themselves.

When I felt some replies crossed the line into trolling or personal attacks, I started using the Flag feature. Eventually, I ran out of available flags, so I could not report later posts that I considered even more inappropriate. I had to wait 24 hours before I could flag again.

Following previous suggestions from Blizzard Support and the MVPs, I have decided to avoid interacting with certain users and have added them to my Ignore list. My goal is simply to avoid unnecessary conflict baiting / trolling and focus on what I want do discuss.

Still he Follows me and I see he reply to me, accuse etc. + Not only here but in other forums as well eg. Support Site Feedback .

I also hope, for the benefit of everyone on the forum, that we can avoid behaviours such as:

  • excessive use of clown or cat emojis directed at other users; (not in 1 post but I counted 7x replies - that’s not an isolate emoji )
  • repeatedly calling other members “clowns”;
  • posting another player’s game information, such as their BattleTag or MMR, without their consent;
  • mass Quoting posts - without adding any own words/ arguments;
  • repeatedly redirecting discussions away from the original topic without addressing the questions being asked;
  • dismissive replies whose only apparent purpose is to provoke or bait other users instead of contributing to the discussion.

I apologize if this part sounds emotional, but I wanted to explain what has been bothering me on the forum.

I also have a few questions and suggestions.

1. What is the purpose of the “Support Site Feedback” section?

From my experience, feedback about Blizzard Support, forum moderation, or how the support forums are managed is often redirected elsewhere.

I would appreciate seeing an example of the type of thread that actually belongs in that section, so users better understand its intended purpose.

2. Support Tickets

I understand that Support Tickets are intended for different kinds of issues and are not meant for general forum feedback.

3. Improvements to the Flag system

Sometimes a single flag category is not enough. A post may simultaneously be off-topic, trolling, inappropriate, and spam, but only one category can be selected.

It would also be helpful if users could include a short explanation when submitting a flag.

For example, I personally do not mind emojis in general. However, because my forum name is “Cat,” I find repeated use of the  emoji in directed replies to be targeted harassment rather than ordinary emoji use. **Not once or twice but I counted like 7 replies to the thread mentioned ** - So I would like to explain why I flag that post -and not other post . (to write short explanation to the FLAG that “My name is Cat - this is baiting against me”)

The same would apply if my username were “Snake” and people repeatedly responded with :snake:, or if it were “Devil” and people repeatedly used :goblin: or similar emojis.
And again not once but 7x instances are not just a "singular joke " or little mock/ bait !

Likewise, I believe most people would not appreciate repeated directed use of the  emoji toward them . Plus responses and lines without any text - just this emoji in Big picture form eg :

than his “friend” replies - continuing the bait/mockery :
:joy_cat: :crying_cat: :grinning_cat_with_smiling_eyes: :pouting_cat: :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes: :weary_cat:

do not contribute anything to the discussion. In my opinion, they serve only to mock or bait another user rather than discuss the topic.

The difficulty is that I am sometimes unable to report all of these posts because I run out of available flags and must wait 24 hours before I can submit more.

Even when I can submit a flag, I can only choose one category. In situations like these, the same post may reasonably be considered trolling, off-topic, spam, and inappropriate at the same time.

There is also no way to explain the context. A moderator reviewing a single post may see only one emoji reply, while I am experiencing a repeated pattern across multiple discussions. What concerns me is not one isolated message, but an ongoing pattern of behavior directed toward me. Allowing a short explanation when submitting a flag would help moderators better understand that context.

I hope this feedback - suggestions can help improve the forum !

( Note: Before anyone runs an AI check: yes, I used AI to polish the grammar and make the wording smoother. The ideas are still mine, and I read + edited the result again before posting because the AI even missed a few points. So if anyone wants to waste electricity running an AI detector … do not do it ! Better leave enough power for the tomatoes to grow in Minnesota. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: )

Hello! I analyzed all the forums and found solutions to all problems:

The problem with Blizzard forums is there are too many subforums and duplicate forums. And that’s just for the US region forum, don’t forget that there are duplicate forums which exist as separate regions like EU.
All different region forums should be merged into one website. Just move everything to the US forum and shutdown all other region forums and redirect traffic to US forum page.

For instance Steam already did this, where they merged everything into one forum: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/
It’s easy to moderate. All feedback and wishes are in one place. You save a lot of time and issues get resolved faster, efficiency. The guy responsible for “mobile” can go in the mobile subforum and read all bugs and suggestions in one place and pick whatever he likes and add them into DevOps backlog and plan his work for next 6 months. Instead of trying to split up “bugs” and “discussion” into separate subforums which Blizzard forum has done, which leads to employes not reading everything since the information is spread out.
The one thing I would improve on Steam forum is to merge subforums “Steam Discussions” with “Steam Community” since are pretty much the same, and also delete “Coding in Source” in “Tools and servers tab” since that seems to be outdated. But other than that it’s perfect.

Blizzard forum design on the other hand has so many subforums which is not logical and makes it very hard for a customer who doesn’t have much time to find the the right subforum. It’s impossible for an average IQ person to know where to post their question or suggestion when the forum has too many subforums.

Let’s fix the Blizzard forums starting with the main “Battlenet forum”. Here is how it currently looks like:

US Battlenet forum: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/blizzard/. All subforums (total 15):

EU Battlenet forum: https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/blizzard/. All subforums (total 2):

There are many more regions with same subforums.

Here is the action plan:

  1. Start by merging all region forum websites, for instance Feedback Discussion and Legacy Games Tech Support subforums move them from “EU Battlenet forum” to the “US Battlenet forum”. Then shutdown “EU Battlenet forum” and redirect traffic to “US Battlenet forum”. Do this for all regions. The forums that absolutely don’t speak english should get a new subforum on the Blizzard US Battlenet forum, for instance germans get a new subforum called “Deutsches Forum” where they can post anything they want.
  2. Merge subforums containing the word “Discussion” with subforums containing the word “Bug”. For instance “API Discussion” and “API Bug Report” are merged into 1, the new name becomes “API Discussion”.
  3. Delete “Support Site Feedback” subforum since it servers no purpose. I believe they want customers to post suggestions regarding this page: https://eu.support.blizzard.com/en/, but nobody knows that since no explanation is given anywhere other than the vague name.
  4. Delete “Battle.net Shop Feedback” subforum, but first move all those posts to “Desktop App Feedback Discussion” subforum.
  5. All subforums must have the same icon as their game in the Battlnet Desktop App. For instance the subforum “Blizzard Arcade Collection General Discussion” has a generic controller icon which is confusing, the icon should be changed to same icon as is shown on the game’s page on Battlnet Desktop App.
  6. Warcraft I & II subforum should be split into 2 different subforum. One for each game.
  7. Do the same but for each game’s own forum page, for instance SC2 forum also has way too many subforums: SC2 Forums, for instance merge the subforums “PTR Bug Report” and “PTR Feedback” as we have on the WC3 forum.
  8. When I am for instance on the WC3 forum, as I am now, there needs to be a button/tab/link added which takes you to the main Battlenet forum. But a link is only found in the Battlenet Desktop App, all forums are very poorly connected/linked to eachother which makes it hard for customers to find the right place to post their suggestion or question.

Dani - You are right, to some extent.
I don’t see the point of having separate StarCraft 2 forums for the US and the EU.

The EU SC2 forums are much smaller. They mostly just repeat the latest news (including patch notes) and have a small General section where people rarely post. Why? The main reason is that they usually don’t get any replies. Many posts end up with 0 replies, or at best 1 or 2. Eventually, users (myself included) just give up.

So, I would prefer to have a single forum for each game, regardless of the region.

But my main point is this: do you understand the purpose of the Support Site Feedback forum?

Thanks Dani and everyone else as well, please take a look at it and let me know what you - others also think?
I wish to have an Example. A correct post for this forum - so I should understand the purpose.

Unfortunately for War1 not too much activity - but yes - each game deserve at least 1 page.

And now on the War3 Reforged (this forum) we have

Community

  • General Discussion = Discuss anything related to Warcraft III.
  • Competitive Multiplayer = Discuss multiplayer, leaderboards, and tournaments surrounding Warcraft III.
  • Custom Games = Share, post, and discuss map creation, strategies, and all things custom games.
  • PTR Discussion and Bug Report

Support

  • Technical Support = Receive support for technical issues while installing or running the game.
  • Bug Report = Experiencing an issue playing Warcraft 3 Reforged? Let us know here!

For me PTR bug Report and Bug Report looks kind the same.
Also Competitive Multiplayer are discussed mainly in General.
Also Custom Games - do not exists too much discussion. Here few map makers have their opinions here - and mostly are Requests to increase tilesets or whatever - so either Bug Reports or again General stuff. Plus a lot of them put their report instead of Custom Games directly to Bug Report than they got dismissed … whatever , I hope you got my point.

So could be fewer categories.

You have put a lot of pressure on my translation tools by typing so many texts. The free quota of these tools can be said to have today but no tomorrow, which is very expensive

I don’t think it was intentional

I would like to answer a possible question about using emojis to express your name, which may be a problem with the input method and not intentional. Sometimes you don’t have to mind too much

In addition to links, this forum only uses emojis. If they are willing to open pictures or videos, it can help players describe the bugs they encounter more quickly

Sorry JZY, would be nice to rephrase it, I do not understand much..
Emojis are like:   :grinning_cat:
I meant you can use them, but not abuse them.

Yes screenshots would be nice to have - to be able to show bugs in game.
Is strange Some people can put GIF’ s which mostly I do not like, but screenshots are not allowed. I do not know why.

:satellite_antenna:

But you do use AI to generate text, why is that insulting to you? That is just a fact, AI generated text can be extremely obvious. You say you like to share your opinions but if your opinions aren’t even your own people are going to call out on it.

This is the sort of thing you contact Support about. Posting stuff like this in plain sight of the people that you’re annoyed with / complaining about is literally just asking for trouble. And honestly, that’s exactly what you got. It almost seems like you’re trying to bait people into breaking the rules or something.

Dude, you yourself have admitted to using gen AI, while this sentence here carries an implication that you’re not using it. It can’t be both, so one statement or the other cannot be true because they are conflicting positions.

Subforums are (on paper at least) a good thing. categorizing topics is a good thing. The problem is, if there’s a “genera” section, 90% of everything will just get posted there and the other categories end up going mostly unused.

To be fair, most topics do belong in general, and sub-forums do occasionally get used for the right purposes.

I just thought of another idea for the action plan:
9. Make it possible for players to delete their own topics. When you delete your own topic, then the topic should be marked with a small red window with text and a countdown which everyone can see that says “This topic will be deleted in 7 days” and people who follow the topic get a notification so they can save any information they may have posted.
I have a lot of topics that have been solved and would like to delete them. Who cares about old topics which have been solved? It should all be cleaned up. We need relevant information, and not bumping old topics which are not relevant anymore. And we need reliable information and the latest issues to be brought up to reach excellence.

All game forums need merging of their subforums. SC2 was just an example since it’s bloated and chaotic, lack of logic. On the WC3 US Forum we also need improvements as you say, merge the “General Discussion” subforum with “Competitive Multiplayer” subforum for starters. No point dividing the community like this even if you don’t agree with everything I posted at least half of it should be done, as for the region merging I would first talk with the legal team at Blizzard so they approve and hear what they say what needs to be done first before merging. I don’t know why they made so many different region forum websites.

Because of how the forums are currently designed with bloated subforums, then it’s easier as a developer to just go read feedback at Reddit or watch Youtube videos since that will save you a lot of time, instead of clicking to enter and exit a bunch of subforums where customers are not posting in the correct subforum. Or in worst case developer ignores all feedback due to too much chaos and simply let employes come up with suggestions which is not the way it should be.

It’s literately in the Description:

Support Site Feedback
Help us improve the Blizzard support site by providing feedback and suggestions.

You have been told multiple times, and you refuse to accept them:

Agreed. They wrote such an emotional post that had nothing to do with the Game itself.
This has nothing to do with General Discussion about Warcraft III: Reforged.

That’s is where a lot of the issues stem from. They post offtopic replies and then get upset when they are called out for being caught in a lie. They get triggered/offended about trivial things on the forums and then demand people stop posting this and that…

They have been told by both Blizzard GMs and MVPs to stop.

it’s like they have never been on the internet before.

You can. Have you ever clicked on a topic and seen “post deleted by author”? These topics will eventually disappear but they remain for a time so a user can’t delete something after the fact and delete the entire conversation along with it.

I can’t delete any of my topics.
I get error: “You don’t have permission to delete this topic. If you really want it to be deleted, submit a flag for moderator attention together with reasoning.”
It’s been like that ever since. I can only delete replies/posts in a topic, but I cannot delete the entire topic.

Hm, idk what to tell you. I just know I see it happen often.

If you cannot delete something that needs to be removed urgently, you can always edit the post first and replace its content.

Then, flag your own post for moderator review.
Flag type does not matter but there are few - to act faster.
The flag notifies the moderators that you would like the post reviewed and removed if appropriate.

Flagging your own post is the worst advice I’ve ever seen anyone give on this forum.

That was suggested from a Game Master - in support ticket answer - because I also asked this once.
Is really not my idea.

I fed that to AI - below is the answer:  You can try also to ask on your side.

“I was accused of using AI”

*Uses AI to evaluate his suggestion of flagging own posts on a post about being accused of using AI*

Good lord…
