Sounds like a pretty normal ping halfway across the world to me.

wasnt that bad when there were bots

You’ll have to wait till Microsoft takes over and servers can be provided by them instead of Activision, Bobby doesn’t like spending money on servers that don’t print money and as a result anyone from Blizzard will politely ignore you.

Playing any Blizzard games from South Africa has always sucked. Hope things change with the acquisition. Would be pretty rad to play Blizzard games on Azure infrastructure from less profit dense regions of the planet.

When the deal goes through and is finalized, send a tweet for servers to Phil Spencer (Xbox head), guy is a legend and always listens.

While Microsoft’s potential takeover of activision may have good reprecussions for Blizzard as a whole, it’s rather a pipe dream to think that resources will suddenly be investedi n this game as a direct result of it.

Warcraft 3 is pretty integral to the Warcraft franchise, more so than many people realize. It appears Mike Ybarra and team recognized this, which is why you’re seeing development continue on it, definitely not an all-hands on deck operation, but enough resources to make you notice at least.

The Microsoft acquisition will definitely involve a mass migration of all Activision-Blizzard infrastructure to Azure, I can’t envision a world where Microsoft pays a third party to host anything they own, they’re Microsoft, and thankfully if you’re from a smaller player footprint region you’ll likely be included coverage in the new rollout, or you’ll be able to reach out to your region-specific Microsoft Xbox community manager and Phil Spencer and make the request, I did this once, with a Microsoft owned game, and we got servers spun up the next day, this is something that won’t happen in a million years under current Activision operations, because Microsoft has easily accessible, world class datacentres and coverage everywhere.

I want to stress that you guys need to hook up with your Microsoft community management partners and engage Microsoft and not Activision-Blizzard, start getting to know these folks already on social media etc, AB is a very much for-profit operation, even post-acquisition, you’re going to find yourself out of luck asking for gameplay-enhancing things like local servers spun up, the company has always been laser focussed on a very precious few profit dense markets, in their mind these server footprint expansions are expenses, and they’d rather you spend than make them spend. Microsoft Xbox division is a weird beast in this world of cynical profit chasing, they want everyone to be happy on their platforms and games, and as a result you’ll actually get meaningful attention when reaching out, crazy, right.

There’s good changes coming if you’re a fan of Blizzard and Activision online games.

In terms of Warcraft, going to let you in on a well known secret, the Microsoft Xbox division executives are huge old-school PC RTS nerds, if you’re even remotely a fan of Warcraft and Starcraft RTS, the acquisition should be exciting.
